Another Big Bear Ride - Stats

Yes, I typed it correctly, all the way home without using the pedals.

Another Big Bear Ride - Stats

Today we did a return journey from Lake, on the Isle of Wight, to Gurnard, via Cowes - about 17 miles each way. It's fairly flat, consisting mainly of cycleway (former railway). Remember I also weigh around 300lbs and carry lots of tools. On the way there, I used only one bar on the battery...

Gave the Woosh Bikes a Test Yesterday

We did a twenty-three mile round trip today. Taking Neal's advice, we stayed on assist level one throughout a fairly flat (Isle of Wight cycleway) six miles, then went to level two for the rest of the trip, which is a bit 'up hill and down dale'. On a couple of hills, I went, briefly, to level...

Gave the Woosh Bikes a Test Yesterday

Thanks for the replies. It was a particularly hilly route, so assist 3 did get used. Generally though, I stuck to 2. The batteries being the same might well be very handy, at some point.

Gave the Woosh Bikes a Test Yesterday

So, we decided to get Woosh bikes: As I'm over twenty stones, it was the Big Bear for me. My wife, being just eight stones and only a little over five feet tall, went for the Petite (with the 15AH battery option). Yesterday, we did a thirty-two mile round-trip over some of the hilliest parts of...

Will An Ebike Motor Lose Power Under Stress?

Thanks very much indeed! As you are probably aware, the island is rather hilly and, just this morning, I rode one of the most feared ones: from Shanklin to Ventnor. Towards the top (one might even say summit!), I was on first gear, with maximum assist, but I made it, much to my surprise...

Will An Ebike Motor Lose Power Under Stress?

If we imagine a road that has a steady incline of say 10% or thereabouts, for many miles, would a hub motor tend to become less powerful as it (presumably) heats up, and would it eventually grind to a halt before the battery is flat?

    Should I Buy Woosh Bikes.....

Thanks Tony. Chances are she'll carry on using her old Raleigh saddle, with all the springs (mattress type), but please fit the 'normal wide ladies saddle' as 80cm is the height of her current saddle (to the centre of the saddle).

    Should I Buy Woosh Bikes.....

Well, I've just bought the Big Bear for me and the Petite for my wife. Now to twiddle thumbs till they arrive.............

Smaller Wheel = Fewer Broken Spokes?

I'm afraid I don't know my nipple from my elbow, but the spokes are breaking at the hub rather than the rim. We'll see what happens with the electric bike and the smaller wheel. Thank you very much.

Smaller Wheel = Fewer Broken Spokes?

I was theorising (more like guessing, to be truthful) along those lines. Thanks very much.

Smaller Wheel = Fewer Broken Spokes?

I'm not changing wheel size to fix the problem; I just happen to be switching from a 28" wheel ordinary bike to a 26" wheel electric bike. The spokes are breaking on my present bike because I weigh half a ton and have strong legs :)

How Best to Tackle Hills on a Longer Ride?

One thing's for certain: it's going to be fun finding all this stuff out for myself. Thank you all.

    Thanks for the replies.

Smaller Wheel = Fewer Broken Spokes?

Am I correct in thinking that a switch from a 28" to 26" wheel bike will result in fewer broken spokes?

Thank you both. That is exactly as I would have imagined.

How Best to Tackle Hills on a Longer Ride?

So, if I were approaching a hill, on the flat, in a high gear on, for example, assist level one, I should remain in that high gear up the hill?

How Best to Tackle Hills on a Longer Ride?

I have yet to buy my first electric bike, but it won't be long now. I'm leaning towards the Woosh Big Bear, as I'm around twenty stones. It seems to me that two main considerations are not to stress the motor excessively and not to expend too much of the battery's charge. Now, given that I'm...
