36V Bosch tool battery for e-bike use

I have been testing 4Ahr Hoverboard batteries and a custom 10S1P 5Ahr battery, and that has been enough for my local trips on my eBrompton. So for 'light' eBike use then the 36V 6Ahr Bosch power tool battery should have enough capacity for local use.

    Batteries Charging Routine

What is so uncertain is what exactly is causing the recent and much publicised eBike\eScooter battery fires, so were all left guessing as to what to do. If the cause of a battery fire is a failure of the charger then that impiles that the charger just carries on charging the battery once its...

5A 36V charger, evaluation and modding

Many thanks for posting that. Whilst you need some protusions\slots to keep the battery in place, if its mounted vertical, you could imagine making up a block of nylon or similar which had the holes to take that type of blade terminal. Or just some type of blade terminal that you could...

    Batteries Charging Routine

Indeed so. In years gone by I used to install computer networks in factories etc. So I often needed to use mains power tools etc so I had a 30M 13A rated extension cable, but to be sure, I would always uncoil the whole lot before using it. Melty melty I did not want.

    KT Controllers and Throttle Settings.

Interesting. The displayed speed on the LCD4 is correct however, so you would think the LCD4 firmware would use the same speed sensing routines to set the 6KM/h throttle with no PAS limit.

    Batteries Charging Routine

Maybe its a temperature sensor for the battery ? For the fast charging the Bosch chargers can use, 1C, you would think a temperature senor on the battery to be essential. It would also make sense if the tool the battery was connected to could use the temperature sensor as a safety power cut...

Well there would be a greater chance of a dicky connection but then that would apply to all uses of an extension lead, so should sales of them be banned ? Maybe the dodgy chargers you can buy (only £3 on Aliexpress) can fail if the power lead is dodgy too.

An equivalent crackdown for cars, would be to lift the drive end off the ground, floor the throttle and see if the speed exceeded the limit of the area the car is in, 20mph, 30mph, 40mph etc.

    Batteries Charging Routine

I though of that, however the 18V batteries appear to have the sam central connector; And for those you can get a power adapter that is only 2 wires; Edit: I have seen a video of someone using two of the 36V Bosch batteries to power a quad bike. He just put some solder on the end of a...

    Batteries Charging Routine

The Bosch powertool batteries have 3 connections, -ve and +ve on the outside and a central connector. Does anyone know what the central connector is for ?

    KT Controllers and Throttle Settings.

I have a bike with a KT controller and LCD4 display, 250W 36V Rear hub motor, it works well enough. I want the throttle setup so that the throttle is only active when the pedals are moving, with the exception that the the throttle is always active up to 6KM/h for assisted getaways from...

Which is a fair point, especially if you dress Ninja style and use a big box as a rucsack. So if you dont need one, it makes sense not to fit one. However, lots of people do like throttles, including me. Pedalling really means moving the pedals enough to activate the PAS sensor, you just need...

    Charging pack to 41V experiment

Not yet, waiting for a 1A charger to arrive. I want to see if the very extended (150 minute) CV period with the diode used is replicated when the charge current is reduced to a more sensible 0.2C.

    Charging pack to 41V experiment

That graph gives you the capacity loss when drained from 4.2V to 4.1V per cell. Which does not tell you what the capacity would be when charged to 4.1V and drained from there. I used a practical drain load of 2A on my 42V 5Ahr battery as that was the current used when on a typical ride, assist...

Yes, interesting. Maybe more modern ones are different. Lots of stuff about eBike fires in the news these days, not much about power tool fires.

And no-doubt a ready second hand market. Got an old Bosch powertool battery ? So buy an adapter and sell the set for eBike use on eBay.
