    Nominal Power misunderstood?

it's not clear to me. Sure, if the manufacturer says he fitted 250W motor then that motor must be able to deliver 250W mechanical power without over heating but the specs don't say at which RPM. If he says he fitted a less than 250W motor, that bike satisfies still EN15194. See how difficult...

    Old age?

20% capacity loss in 3 years, my guess you can continue for another year like it is, by the end of year 4, the capacity reduction would be about 30%, then decide between a new bike or a new battery next year. If you buy a new battery this year, you'd lose an extra amount (£500/3) for 20% extra...

Mid crank drive motor - what type of gears are best?

that dahon is a good buy up to £350, good for conversion. Note that Dahon specify a weight limit too, but I think the 20" wheels are quite capable of taking a little bit more. On the downside, it's a relatively heavy 2-fold with the NuVinci, not easy to carry though.

    Electric Bicycles in India

totally agreed. My children are all good cyclists but never fix anything on their bikes.

    Old age?

the usual fix is to increase the assist ratio via reprogramming. If that option is not available, then shifting down a gear may increase your cadence and input, therefore increase the motor output.

Mid crank drive motor - what type of gears are best?

you can buy a gear sensor for the 8-Fun BBS01 for about £50 (gearsensor.com), but it's easy to get used to changing gear on a Chinese kits.

Mid crank drive motor - what type of gears are best?

On crank drive systems, you still need to cut power to the motor before you change gear. Hub gears don't make much noise during shifting even if the power is still on, but it's not good for them if you shift under load. On expensive CD bikes, sophisticated software and/or a gear sensor will do...

so it isn't the battery. time to shift down a gear?

Mid crank drive motor - what type of gears are best?

for folding bikes, 3-speed hub gear is the best compromise. The bugbear of crank driven systems is the chain and gears. You need to select the right gear and you don't want the chain to come off, ever. I must say that I am much an aficionado of the Gtech way: no grease, no wires, nothing to...

    Electric Bicycles in India

I think they do. 24V battery, 16A controller, unspecified battery capacity, no brand motor. Cost price may be below $350, selling for $460. I do like the practical design of their bikes though.

    Batteries In Aircraft Cabin Baggage

you are right. The current limit as per British Airways leaflet is two per person in cabin, Lithium batteries must be kept inside manufacturer's packaging and protected against accidental activation. Capacity must be less than 160WH each. This should really be sufficient for e-bikes. Wheelchair...

    Batteries In Aircraft Cabin Baggage

I thought the current limit is 100g of Lithium equivalent per passenger. After last week plane hijacking, I think security will have to be even tighter at airports. Just imagine some guy with a home-made taser or stun gun, or an electric drill even, all he needs is a good power source fitted...

    Batteries In Aircraft Cabin Baggage

the amount of energy inside the lipo packs and the high discharge current makes the lipo packs a lot more capable though. Gunpowder: 3MJ/kg, Lithium battery: 1.8MJ/kg. Energy sources inside an aircraft are where the danger is. I honestly think they should be banned when carried as cabin luggage.

    Batteries In Aircraft Cabin Baggage

the lipo packs that Justin made could easily be turned into a weapon inside an aircraft.

Is it possible to derestrict Volt bikes?

I don't think you can, IIRC, it's password protected.

    New Tesla Model 3

it may be more cost effective to subsidize and strengthen polution control in ICE vehicles than to subsidize electric vehicles until such a time when battey cost comes down to less than half today's cost.

front /mid or rear moter and battery placement for this full sus mtb

I'd go for a rear BPM motor, 13AH HL battery and HL controller integrated into the battery cradle.

Anywhere to hire an e-bike before buying?

if you come from a cycling background, I doubt that you'd find Chinese bikes satisfying. The BBS01 is a well trusted motor, many members have used it and many still do. I had one myself 3 years ago and can recommend it to anyone wanting a commuter bike. However, it's not the only solution, my...

Anywhere to hire an e-bike before buying?

A conversion would require a much lower outlay and possibly reduces the running cost too. A good crank drive kit like the 8-Fun BBS01 with 15AH battery would cost you about £600 and will have plenty of range and climbing power. Alternatively, for a ready built crank drive, the woosh Bali would...

    What's the best 250 watt...

the maximum power peaks at a combination of around 60% * max RPM and pushing very hard on your pedals, supplying may be 180W and the motor 720W. On the way to the top, you can only get to the peak power in short moments. That explains why your average speed is lower than the maximum possible and...
