Having used a dongle for a short while (device that slows speed sensor pulses to make bike think it's going slower than it is, and hence give power to much higher speeds) there are a couple of issues besides illegality that put me off "derestricting" bike.
Firstly your displayed mileage...
well the new bikes for next year tend to start showing up around the end of august sep but getting a dongle to work should not be a problem now but on most of these bikes there made so you cant run a massive front chain ring.
mine would be a 52t normal size sprocket and 10t at rear.
they use the speed box 1

there are others but still a bit hit and miss if it works or not but most of them are on here.

only with the new smart motors but there are now dongles for them a ebikeshop sell them with there bikes and a few months ago this was not a option.
problem is you can never update the software or it will brick the dongle
it was a 1000w diy hub motor that crashed other guy had bafang hd and a canyon with a bad ass dongle.
he had to pay to get it out but at that point it was near scrap anyway bar the hub and controller.
What it means in real terms is you can go faster, but more than likely going to overwhelm the low end brakes they come fitted with, and if per chance you get in an accident, the courts throw the book at you.
yes a dongle will remove the speed limit but it does not give the motor any more power.

tho to get the most out of it you will need a bigger front chain ring and most frames wont let you go much bigger.
...will not service any off them and also any giant bike as they make there own controllers batts and displays.

if i had a brand new bike id take the motor off it and send it to him to get that done and have his warranty and...
There is a brand new bike for sale at the moment I like. If I buy it, it will be delivered to me from Tredz. The seller has bought it using the cycle to work scheme and is selling it before it’s been delivered.
He says I will be the first registered owner if its delivered to me, but surely not...
...could say m but both will be different but if you see something you like make them a offer and see what they say.
just dont even mention the word dongle in that case as will void any warranty if they found out you want to use one as been brainwashed to think they brake the motors
That takes the ****. He wants £1000 more for the Haibike i posted.
Seems like the bike industry has been a gravy train for last few years. Demand has been so high sellers haven’t had to worry about price or customer service.
Once the biggest sellers start reducing prices small independent...
...you buy a bike from him dare open the box put the wheels on it and find it is the wrong size you will only get 60% back and that is a breach of trading standards.
tho he does list them 1-2% lower on his site
so you can have a dongle and warranty but you have to deal with that...
it is only the smart motors that have become a problem with dongles and they will work just you can never update the software or it will brick it.
you should be still able to get a new bike with the non smart motors and then a dongle wont be a problem but putting a bigger front chain ring might...
...engine.

No doubt it’s the best of the main 4 motors but I’d rather have something that works flawlessly with a dongle. Even if it’s not quite as good.
Too many hills near me to be peddling a 25kg bike in limp mode.
if you buy it from martin at ebike shop you can have the dongle and warranty for 2 years tho you can never update it.
