Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

Those motors are non-serviceable units, they can't be repaired so have to be replaced entirely by the manufacturer. Therefore, not many owners are going to open them and show the internals...

    Best bike for least peddling

The least pedalling you will do would be on a Kalkhoff bike (or Beat Tonga or focus), as it will be broken down in no time, and then will be at the shop a long time waiting for some repairs to happen...;);)

    New to the scene

Hopefully, being an old model, your Kalkhoff bike won't have the infamous Impulse motor, else you have a lot more to worry about than just punctures...

What do you think is best for me?

...then you should do some serious market research before you consider buying something from 50 Cycles, particularly a Kalkhoff bike, or their own rebranded Beat Toga bikes, powered by the same infamous Impulse 2 motors. Hundreds of cases reported in the UK and in Europe of reliability and...

Beat Bike Toba - any thoughts?

It's to wonder why 50 Cycles, apparently using their years of experience on electric bikes, would release their own brand using the Impulse 2 motor known for failures and breakdowns, or even continue selling Kalkhoff bikes with the Impulse II motors... What are they trying to achieve (apart...

Which should I buy? Revised question!

The price might have been good, but those Beat Tonga electric bikes are just rebranded versions of Kalkhoff bikes, and running the same infamous Impulse 2 motors, subject to many breakdowns and defects. The Beat Tonga brand was created specifically by 50 Cycles, probably just as a simple...

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect 9G

You probably bought the Pro Connect 9 for £1,700, so you want to sell it after a few months for £1,500, used? Very unlikely. Also, given all reported issues on Kalkhoff bikes with Impulse motors on this forum, you are unlikely to sell it here at all. Maybe try eBay or Gumtree, but I would...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

Unfortunately Derby Cycles/Kalkhoff don't have a proper fix for the ongoing reliability issues of their Impulse 2 motors. You could ask 50 Cycles to put a third motor on your bike, and hope that the issue won't happen again, but as the motors are the same (no mechanical changes have been...

What does your choice of bike say about YOU?

I guess recent buyers of Kalkhoff bikes, Derby Cycle bikes or other bikes sold by 50 Cycles (Beat bikes!) are probably not very good at online research or using Google... else they would probably make a different choice!

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

50 Cycles have released their own brand of electric bikes: Beat Bike Toba Yeah! The issue is: they are made by Derby Cycles, are basically rebranded Kalkhoff bikes (look exactly the same, like the Agattu), and have the infamous Impulse 2 motor, well known now for it's poor reliability...

Is Kalkoff Aggatu C11 motor kaput?

Given the low mileage, demand a free repair/motor replacement from 50 Cycles. If they don't comply, take legal action (e.g. small claim court). With only 1,800 miles done, they won't win against a claim, given the high price of the bike, and the fact that it should have lasted a long time (as...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

Unfortunately, some of their customers think the same too... Sounds like the level of service in Bristol is not any better.

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

I don't get it. How could you have had no pre-delivery inspection on your bike? From the 50 Cycles website: ======================= First Class Service We specialise in providing the best electric bikes and the smartest cycling accessories in the UK. We also offer the most responsive and...

    2017 E-Silence EVO

Officially, there was no widespread issue with Impulse 2 motors, but a large number of faults proved them wrong. Then, Kalkhoff eventually acknowledged the issue and released a software update that was resolving "100%" of the issue... but quite a lot of buyers have had failures despite that...

    Gaadi double-ended inner tube

The Gaadi double ended tube is great if you can't remove your wheels when out. It is most likely to only be required to go back home, as opposed to being used as a permanent tube. However, make sure you also carry a knife, as you may need to cut the old tube to remove it.

    2017 E-Silence EVO

One may wonder why 50 Cycles will no longer be the exclusive UK reseller then, and why 50 Cycles is now diversifying to many other makes...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

So 50 Cycles hadn't prepared the bike when you collected it?

    Took the plunge

Clearly you didn't feel like doing a minimum of research before spending £3,000 on a bike! I suggest you don't do too much research now, as you will probably regret your purchase very soon... FYI, nothing "premium" about Kalkhoff bikes (given the number of defects reported) and 50 Cycles...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

I am not: while the motor issues are not their fault, their track record of after sales service is horrible, and they are also very aggressive and threatening to their customers. 50 Cycles don't seem to have many spare motors in stock, despite knowing there is an issue, and replacements take...

What speed can you reach after power cut out at 15mph using leg power?

Last time I tried a Kalkhoff bike, I could hardly reach a higher speed than the cut-off speed of 17mph, on a flat road. The bike however was very heavy (probably 25kg).
