Chainline offset for BBSHD and hub gear - how much is too much?

Just for the record, now that I've had the bike in daily use for a few months. I was *almost* able to make it work with 2.5cm misalignment. With a freshly tensioned chain, and normal riding it would all work fine. The missus never had a problem. Riding harder on a bumpy road would cause a...

Chainline offset for BBSHD and hub gear - how much is too much?

You could say the problem is the 32t bling-ring. The original Bafang 46t massive steel Frisbee from hell "wraps around" the final drive gear much further and provides a chain-line with with possibly just half of the offset. However the bike came with a 34t chain wheel and considering the heavy...

Chainline offset for BBSHD and hub gear - how much is too much?

Yeah, that was my first thought too. But I finally had the chain guard in place yesterday and went for a short ride ( without power ) and there were no ugly sounds or other signs of trouble even when going up a steep slope in first gear. My battery is arriving tomorrow, so I guess I will know...

Chainline offset for BBSHD and hub gear - how much is too much?

Thanks for the info. I'm certainly learning about new options here. What I find slightly confusing is that I have horizontal dropouts, so I can make the chain as taut as I want, but you write as if it's self evident that a singulator would be better. Are we just talking past each other a bit...

Chainline offset for BBSHD and hub gear - how much is too much?

Exactly. But at the moment I have less than an inch of play. The frame is built for hub gears after all. I guess I could make a couple of tensioners like this if I wanted it still tighter with more fine-grained control. On the other hand the spring loaded tension provided by a singulator...

A singulator! That's a new one to me. I will keep that in mind if I have problems.

    BBSHD mystery threaded holes

But I've seen no such thing during my bbs-research and a quick google turns up nothing likely to use these holes. If they pay to have these holes made, you'd think they'd sell a chain-guard themselves... I was thinking it could be some sort of extractor arrangement. If there is an internal...

    BBSHD mystery threaded holes

Hm.. that's a thought. I know I've seen a picture of something like that, but I cant find it right now. But I guess these guys might be using those holes.

    BBSHD mystery threaded holes

My BBSHD has 8 of these M4 threaded holes on the back of the output gear. They are going to be very handy for me for fixing a new bracket for the old-fashioned chain guard that goes with my bike. But I'm stating to get curious - what are they for? I presume Bafang did not go to the expense of...

I certainly will once my battery arrives :)

Chainline offset for BBSHD and hub gear - how much is too much?

Well, that is reassuring. As close as I can tel that's exactly what I have. 2.5cm out of line. It's possible to flip the cog on this hub to gain about a cm on that, but then the chain rubs against this "intermediate chainstay" I have on my frame. I have the feeling this is really just for...

Chainline offset for BBSHD and hub gear - how much is too much?

If that happens on a fixed chain it could get ugly! I'm using a KMC X9-93 chain on a 32t Bling Ring in front and a 22t on the SRAM 5 sp. in the back.

    Anyone seen Samsung 33G cells?

I got told by EM3 that it's an automotive grade cell and that the info they have is confidential. They are supposedly rated for 2C but they recommend 1.5C.

Chainline offset for BBSHD and hub gear - how much is too much?

The relative offset between front and rear cogs should of course ideally be zero. For an unforeseen reason I can't get as close that that as I had hoped without some major surgery. Then again a 1x derailleur will have quite some offset when in highest or lowest gear. I'll tell you the...

Nihola cargo trike conversion - sanity check please?

I had not quite realized how the coaser brake would be left useless. Thanks for the heads up. But as you say the front drums are doing most of the work anyway and I will probably install v-brakes just for redundancy, so I'll be fine in that department :-) Another surprise was that the motor...

Nihola cargo trike conversion - sanity check please?

And I spoke to a Norwegian Nihola reseller who told me they do BBS02 conversions with kits that sell for 1500£ locally!

Nihola cargo trike conversion - sanity check please?

I forgot to mention, but yeah it's 68mm and 35mm ID. I also just found a short video that appears to show a BBS02 conversion. Mute the volume :-) Was just about to try to get a 1:1 print of the drawing done to try it out.

    Bafang Max Drive bikes

Never mind the PM, I found them. Its psWpower. http://www.pswpower.com I believe that's the same vendor I linked to under a different name. http://www.elifebike.com https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1314442 Note the phone and fax numbers at the bottom of the page. They also both map to the IP...

Nihola cargo trike conversion - sanity check please?

I just acquired this Nihola cargo trike for a rather good price :D. It's got a few dings and dents, but hardly any wear on the chain and tires. The promo vinyl came off nicely yesterday, and a child seat is about to be ordered. It's rather hilly around here and the missus is not really an...

Oslo Offers Citizens $1,200 to Buy an E-Bike

And in case anybody wondered how that went, the whole budget allocation for this program got snapped up in a few days. Almost exclusively by people in the most well to do neighbourhoods. You had to buy first and apply to get your 10k NOK back. (I'd say most ebikes are 20-30k nok at the moment)...
