Is the extra 5 amps chewing up my range?

Recently I've moved from a 20 amp controller to 25 amp and I'm seeing a significant drop in range on full power, I'm ending with 2 volts less than normal on a 15 mile trip. Is this typical for this increase or am I pushing the battery too hard?

    Kt regen settings

I'm tempted to try a stronger regen braking setting but the kt manual states that levels stronger then setting 1 can damage the motor. How true is this? Also it says something to the effect of stronger braking recovers less energy. Eh? Surely strong regen would recover more energy as long as you...

Direct drive hub, 15 amps controller enough?

Following my hub failure the wife's also went, just the nylon gears, but as it was rusty and spokes kept breaking we opted for a new wheel. She has ordered a 500w direct drive for the cheapness and reliability. Her current controller is a kunray 6 fet 15amps, will this be enough for such a big...

    Mounting controller on seat tube

I want to mount a kt waterproof 22a controller to the seat tube. I'm looking for a solid mounting solution that looks tidy, any ideas? Any sort of bracket available that could be held with jubilee clips?

    Direct drive growl, normal?

I have took my new hub from cyclotricity for a spin and it performs pretty well. Only thing is I thought DD hubs were meant to be pretty much silent? It is at high speed but it has quite a loud growl when starting up. Runs great and doesn't pull too much current so I'm confident it's set up right.

    Kt LCD broken button bracket

So I got a new hub installed (cyclotricity 500w) and it works at treat, yay! However at some point during the faf I have snapped the plastic bracket that holds the buttons in place. Any hack for this? Would super glue hold do you think?

    Can I adapt a 160mm dropout to a 135/140 wheel?

My hub is knackered and is an unusual size, was going to stretch my frame slightly and use a fat hub, but could I not just use a regular 135mm hub with a spacer or two to minimise squishing the frame?

Finally pushed my hub too far?

Yesterday my suntour hesc hub which has been overvolted for a while inexplicably died. What's wierd is it worked fine until I unplugged the motor higo plug to show a family member who was wanting to do work on his bike. After this it just would not work, slight judder followed by error 3 hall...

    Is her motor toast?

My wife's hub motor is making a sort of rhythmic mechanical noise when it's running. No noise when the motor isn't used. Definitely coming from the hub, other than this it works normally. Bearings or something worse?

500w hub motor for 160mm dropouts?

I'm upgrading to a 9 fet controller as my 6 get keeps overheating, it's 500w 25a. I think this may be a bit much for my geared hub although it is a larger one, I fancy an upgrade to a 500w hub with a bit more poke, but my dropouts are 160mm, all I can find are 135mm or 170mm (fatbike) hubs. Can...

    Strange potentially dangerous grounding issue

I've just plugged in my wife's bike to charge and got a small shock from her pannier rack, got the meter out and I'm getting up to 2v coming though the rack near the battery when charging!? The battery is a metal case, I'm guessing the charge leads have managed to ground to the case. Could this...

Schwalbe smart Sam, terrible on wet tarmac!

I got a pair of these recently had them in the rain today. They are rather slippy on wet pavement, fortunately it's not the washout kind as they seem to recover well from going under but still damn! A shame as they are excellent in the dry and decent grip on hardpack and also very fast for a...

    Crashed again...

Had a nasty spill yesterday in the rain. Heading to work I hit what I assume was oil on the road, and to make matters worse I slid towards a drain cover so I really had no chance. Ripped my panniers and snapped half of my brake lever off, bars went wonky too but easily fixed. Not to mention I...

Ordered the wrong controller, will it work?

I am upgrading my wife's bike to 48v, we have accidentally ordered a 24/36v 15a controller instead of equivalent 48v one. The battery has a BMS which should protect it, and the KT LCD should show the correct charge anyways. The question is will it even run? Anyone got experience of doing this...

    Grindy hub

So the neverending gremlins have struck again, this time on the wife's bike. The hub started making a loud noise upon startup which smooths out when up to speed. I replaced all the connectors and still the same, I'm guessing either mechanical issue or the hall sensor has failed. Is there...

    KT battery life, WOW

Since changing to a KT controller I have done a 32 mile round trip in power assist level 3. I think it is in torque mode as the wattage stayed the same throughout, round about 300w. On my 13ah 48v battery I finished the journey with 4.55v which to be fair is nearly dead, but there are some...

KT error 6 under high current

I've just changed to a KT 500w controller 20a, I had a strange issue with the motor cutting out when going from a standstill, if I kept the throttle held in I would be greeted with error code 6. I switched to voltage display and noticed the battery voltage was collapsing rapidly, suggesting too...

    Want a tidy mounting solution

I have changed my controller to a KT 500w 20a model. Unfortunately it doesn't fit in my controller box, and due to the power I think it would overheat anyway. My triangle space is quite limited with the big hailong battery in there, I have it in a frame bag currently but that looks messy and...

    Rain gear

I am going for an interview on Monday, if I get it it means a longer commute. Battery has the range, that's not the issue here. I have some basic rain gear but I think I may get saturated on a longer ride if it's bad. Would need something to keep rain out of my eyes, I don't wear a helmet so a...

    Glazed brakes?

My front brake (Clark M2) has bite at the lever but doesn't feel that grabby any more, plenty of pad left. I suspect the pads have glazed over. I replaced them with cheap eBay pads previously, are these the issue or is there something I can do to help?
