How to get at motor mounting bolts?

I cant answer your first question but both crank bolts are right hand threads i.e. lefty loosey. There are left hand threads on the left pedal and on the drive sprocket.

    Moving Off at Traffic Lights

Watch the other lights and anticipate the change. Most drivers don't start doing anything until the lights are green. If it's safe start on red and amber you can be half way across before the drivers get going. Just don't knock down any pedestrians !!

Crank Removal - Bosch Active Line

I don't know about active line but the Performance CX has a hollow axle and the pin bit of my extractor was too small and went in the bore instead of pushing on the end of the axle. My answer was to get a bit of 6mm rod that goes right through the axle and engages on the crank bolt on the...

Suntour SP12 NCX suspension seatpost bargain!

You are correct Fordulike. With mine I found the standard spring OK but preferred to set the preload so it is just off the stop with my weight static. Also despite greasing everything from new the centre piston does start squeaking from time to time so needs a bit of extra lubing. Not a fit and...

Help! What is the blue button???

You are unlikely to have damaged anything. It sounds like the gear cable tension just needs a little tweak. From new the cable can settle and/or stretch and throw the gear selection slightly off especially in down changes. Like any new bike or motorbike it takes a little time to got used to and...

New owner first thoughts and basic questions

Battery removal reduces weight so easier to lift. I find removing the front wheel and seat post (non dropper) is usually enough. Removing the front wheel and turning the handlebars 90deg allows you to lay it fairly flat, chain side up of course.

Request from an ebike owner for a kids bike HELP!

Have you considered a recycled cycle. There are a number of Bike Projects that do this. Take in donated bikes, do them up and sell them. Kids grow out of bikes so fast these days it does make you wonder if buying new is worth it. But then again we all love a new bike don't we. I am from down...

    Help! New chain needed ?

All you need is one for the number of speeds you have on the rear cassette. A 12speed has a slightly narrower chain than a 10speed which in turn is slightly narrower than a 9speed. Ebike specific chains are said to be stronger but who really knows. It could be marketing hype. KMC seem to be a...

Neighbor asked me not to lock our ebikes, and then insisted that we don't

If this guy, the cleaner and who knows who else have keys to the room it is not that secure is it. It is a condition of your insurance, so ignore him and carry on being sensible.

First funny moment on an ebike

It may not have been because you were on an ebike. For a lot of people, including me in a past life, another cyclist was a target. If I saw one in the distance it was my duty to catch and overtake them. Hopefully giving them a cheery wave as I flew past.

    Air forks

I have a Cube Reaction that had spring forks. They were way over stiff, virtually no sag and I was using less than 50% of the travel and I am no lightweight (90Kg). I couldn't get softer springs so I replaced them with a RoxShock Judy air fork. Much more compliant and you can adjust the pressure...

    Puncture repair kits

I have had the dried up glue tube scenario. Since then I always carry a spare tube and a puncture repair kit with an brand new tube of glue for back up. First puncture gets a replacement tube, any after that have to be repaired. So far the spare tube is enough. It is quicker just to change the...

    Bridleway restrictions

A pedalec, i.e. pedal assisted bike, is classed as a bicycle so is allowed. Any of the other types of electric bikes are classed as mechanically propelled and are not allowed. I would include derestricted (dongaled) pedalecs in this because Bridleways are rights of way open to the public.

    adjust brakes

There seem to be few nuts and bolts missing. There should be a nut and bolt anchoring the torque arm and also a nut and washer on the cable clamp. Once the cable is clamped and the spring on the little nib on the lever you can adjust the brake with the adjuster on the end of the outer cable.

Schwalbe Super Moto X. Seemingly impossible to remove

I have the same problem with the Smart Sam's on my Cube. I tried the 4x2 and the vice methods but I found the sidewalls too flexible for it to work. Assuming I was doing it right of course. I managed in the end by rolling the tyre up so it pulled away from the rim. Hard on the hands but it gave...

Changing wheel diameter size on Bosch powered bikes

If I have got it right it goes the other way. You need bigger wheels. You won't go so far for one rev of a 26 compared to a 29. So 16.8 on a 29 will be 15 on a 26 and 9.3 on a 16. As I understand it you are only allowed a small variation of adjustment by Bosch to enable small corrections. Not...

Cleaning and maintaining chain on eBike

You have to be careful with the electronics on the handlebars when you turn the bike upside down they can be vunerable to damage. So many people/bikeshops advise not to do it. Just using a couple of blocks under the grips is usually enough to keep things clear of the ground.

    Disregarding UK pedelec laws

A law is a law, good or bad. If you are caught breaking them there can be consequences. A derestricted pedalec becomes a mechanically propelled vehicle and is subject to whole set of laws involving driving licenses, insurance, vehicle approval/registration etc. A mean spirited police officer or...
