    Kit for folder

I'm not having much luck getting a bike for this summer. My first choice was a folding Woosh Zephyr but they couldn't guarantee it for my weight so I've decided I might as well put my hand in my pocket and get what I want - a folding e-bike suitable for me. I think the best way to do this...

    Very helpful information. Many thanks.

    Front Hub?

How is Big Bear on tarmac on the hills? I understand about the variable factors such as my weight and the extent that I am able to power it through the pedals, but does the front mounted Big Bear do any better or worse on a hill than your rear mounted FB LS, for example?

    Front Hub?

:) So refined. Yes, it looks nutty to me. My instincts tally with your advice but I think this particular company (Woosh) have used a forward mounted motor on this particular model (Big Bear) to better distribute the weight on a heavy bike. Unfortunately they have sold out of the rear wheel...

    Front Hub?

:) Had to look that one up. Yeah, I could fancy myself on one of those - Gauloises hanging out me bouche. Internet says they made an electric one in 2005 but then I think they finished. That's interesting - you mean a front hub would be a good counter weight for a heavy rider. That makes...

    Front Hub?

I think the Paratrooper on ebay at the moment is a pukka conversion using decent kit but I appreciate the warning about the cheap conversions. :) I ain't going to be buying a souped up off-roader for that very reason.

    Front Hub?

Yeah. I've seen a few implementations - one has the battery on the downward post where a bottle might be mounted; another has it on a rack over the rear wheel. There's one of these on ebay at the moment but it's souped up for 30mph, well worn and still quite expensive.

    Front Hub?

Right; I get it now. Rear drive is favourite for assistance on hills. The folder is a rear wheel drive with 26" wheels but the importer/manufacturer has already dissuaded me from that model on grounds of weight. One of his alternatives is a front wheel drive non-folder also with 26" wheels...

    Front Hub?

My instinct says that, too. I agree with your point about the front hub not being a deal breaker. The manufacturer said the folder was unsuitable for me which is a shame. That means I won't be able to get my bike on a bus and there's a hill between me and civilisation on each side of the...

    Front Hub?

I see. Sorry, I don't think I made myself clear. When you said: I thought the comment about a 'lot of torque' was was specifically with reference to front hub motors. Addressing your comment again, does the location of the motor, on the front or on the rear, have any positive bearing on the...

    Front Hub?

:) I believe I'll pass on that. I see. I understand what twitchy means in this context - less stable from the off, particularly in the wet. Does greater torque mean I get more assistance up a hill, or is that just increased drive from the off on the flat? Thanks for the information, by...

    Front Hub?

Hello again, everybody. I've been dissuaded from the folding bike by Tony from Woosh. He says it's not suitable for my weight. That leaves the competition - one of which has a front hub motor. I'm slightly wary of a front drive bike; does anybody have anything to add to the other threads...

    Competition for a Woosh Zephyr-B

That's it. He's got it up at £895. I thought it was just down the road but now I think it isn't - it's in Surrey. Thank you; that's very helpful. I'll bear that in mind. He's already stipulated on the advert that he would only accept cash in person so I guess he's hoping to cook up some...

    Competition for a Woosh Zephyr-B

Tony from Woosh reckons I'm too heavy for the Zephyr but Paul of this forum is about my weight and recommends the bike so I'm confused about the Zephyr now. This is a shame as I was just about to buy one. Now, I don't know what to do and time is ticking on. There's a Woosh LS Rio 'fat bike'...

    Competition for a Woosh Zephyr-B

Very nice design at £1999 for pre-order. I'm considering boosting my fund for that one . Big boost. :) Thank you very much for the links. The mid-drive conversion looks excellent. I'm falling between trying to be an informed consumer and wanting to get out on the road as soon as possible...

    Competition for a Woosh Zephyr-B

Looking at the Woosh site, two models seemed to have disappeared today, including one of my possible near alternatives, the 'Fat' bike. Shame.

    Competition for a Woosh Zephyr-B

Many thanks for the links - it looks good. I think I need a full size (ish) wheeled bike for these pot holed country roads.

It's a peach. If we were on the railway, I'd go for something like that. But all we have is buses. Not on the sabbath, of course. (And we're lucky to have that, looking at the state of public transport in this country)

    Competition for a Woosh Zephyr-B

Yeah, it's a good point - there's some bulk to it. Mostly, it would be unfolded on an off-peak train but I'm opting for a folder so that I can get a bus out of the village. And I thought I'd investigate getting a canvas bag for it. I'm reasonably strong. Much appreciated, though.
