VLCD5 display - night ride, with lights, without backlit display ?

Here's the removable "nightshade". Seamgrip urethane glue, plastic fabric off-cut (from the base of a modified rack bag that covers the e-bike battery), two strips of double-sided velcro, and two layers of car window tinting film (20% variant). Sharp knife, steel edge and cutting board. Put...

Woosh Advice requested - powering e-bike lights

Once again, we differ in the amount of light we'd choose for our own lights. Dynamo-powered systems are perfectly able to light my way. Back to your reference article: "Does Dynamo Hub Drag Really Matter? Only a little."

Woosh Advice requested - powering e-bike lights

TBH, I think those in the "brigade" who have had the foresight to spend time making a permanently fixed lighting system, they will have had that covered. For such eventualities, there's a long-life single AA torch in my tool kit.

Woosh Advice requested - powering e-bike lights

From the article you quoted: "Given the leverage of a wheel and the flywheel effect of the rotating mass, dynamo hub drag only has a small effect on your speed. The result for most people is likely to be an extra three to six minutes riding time over 100km, all while getting a good charge to...

Woosh Advice requested - powering e-bike lights

I think you're overstating the effect the resistance has when the dynamo is on - those of us who do ride dynamo-option bikes/trikes won't notice a huge difference when actually riding. Theoretically, yes. In Practice, No. Sure, put the dynamo-hubbed wheel into a stand, and compare the...

    Display waterproof

Unfotunately, the casing for the VLCD5 display has its join line running all the way round, and I doubt very much if it is a watertight seal, so my concern remains that rain will seep into the unit from all angles, including the cable entrances. I'm not taking any chances, and will be using...

    Display waterproof

I had the same concern and thought I could adapt this - it's big enough to cover the VLCD5. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bicycle-Handlebar-Front-Storage-Bag/401625371914?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Mine's arrived, and I plan to do that this weekend. I've already...

That all very well and good, but any suggestions as to how to actually help the OP with his problem ? The lights he's chosen should work fine, but they're not working at all.

    Advice on 3 bikes

Yeah, easy. If you're skint, I'd recommend the Haibike. On the other hand, if you've loadsamoney, get the Cube ! (I'm also pretty sure if you want to share a little more about what you're looking for the bike to do, and other things that are important to you, someone will chip in with a more...

Woosh Advice requested - powering e-bike lights

When you looked for a voltage on these wires, was the VLCD5 "on" AND the "Lights" icon showing on the display ? Pressing the on/off button on the VLCD5 has an additional function - momentarily pressing it turns on (off) the power to the lighting circuit. At least this is what I have on mine...

    Checking off decision to convert

You won't be stranded if you've chosen a crank-drive system that includes a throttle. It's an option on several of the TSDZ2 conversion kits from Woosh (and other suppliers). Cranks and pedals coming loose will be as common on a pedelec as they would be on a non-powered bike. Are your nuts tight...

Electric Lights - connected to VLCD 5 ontroller or direct to battery

Don't know if they've standardised their chargers - I have one of their current Galaxy A20e smartphones, with a "fast charger" - 5.0v DC at 2.0A. An old flip-phone Samsung phone I had previously used a charger that worked for it, but not my Nook tablet - which needed 1.0A. I think you're right...

Unfortunately, most do not provide this current level, 500mA to 800mA is far more common. Agree on that - usb connection is well known to become unreliable through water ingress and physical strain.
