    What's the answer?

Those who have read some of my other posts over the last few years will know that I am somewhat paranoid about the additional weight of most ebikes compared with the lightweight unpowered touring bikes of my youth. Although I readily acknowledge the benefits of my modest ebikes (a Decathlon...

Can I fit a light weight battery to my Decathlon 500e pedelec

Thank you all for the sensible advice. I'll stick with my converted (cadence) old tourer for local rides and use the more relaxed ride of the torque controlled Decathlon for the longer ones. I think it was more the desire to know how the Decathlon is put together eg the torque system than a...

Can I fit a light weight battery to my Decathlon 500e pedelec

I like most characteristics of my Decathlon Riverside 500e bike except the weight of the 11Ah battery for short rides. Is there anyway of substituting with one of my lightweight 2.6 or 5Ah 36V batteries (+ separate controller if necessary) for such rides? I don't want to invalidate the warranty...

Help! Lightweight e-kit for coaster brake bike - alternate e-bike and 'normal' bike experience.

Hi, Congratulations on achieving what you do with an extra 40kg of no doubt lively youngsters onboard. So it sounds as though you only need limited assistance at present on the more hilly terrain around Barcelona. It might be possible with something like the relatively light Swytch Go kit...

    Swytch bike problems

Hi, Had a problem very much like that in the early days of my Mk 1 kit. Controller was replaced under warranty and I was also supplied with a Hall sensor bypass cable which I have retained ever since. No subsequent problems of that sort in ~ 3 years. Peter. PS Weight on the handlebar...

For Sale TGA Crank Drive Ebike

I bought/sold one of those on ebay about 10 years ago. Good at hill climbing because of crank drive (24V ex van/lorry? starter motor), but rather top heavy because of two lead acid 12V batteries in rear box.

Review Just joined. I am 79. Not ridden (normal bike) for last 8 years. Need more gentle exercise.

It's the weight which I wouldn't like - about 25.6Kg I think. Regarding torque or cadence I have my old adapted bike with cadence and the more recent Decathlon with torque - I get on with both types.

    Assist cuts out occasionally

I've had a similar sort of effect with my adapted Swytch setup and (I think) only when using the Yose battery. The display has not gone off and after a couple of hundred yards of harder cycling the assistance has come back on. It's a different sort of connection to the Yose battery so I have...

    Swytch Go

What was the charge for the upgrade to the '60 mile' range and do they quote the capacity of the upgraded battery? Thanks Peter

    The 'next life'?

The adapted Swytch kit on my ancient tourer and the more recent Decathlon 500E are allowing me to continue enjoying some local cycling and light touring as I approach my eighties but they both suffer from increased weight and poorer handling. I had hopes for less conventional conversions such...

    Should I be surprised?

I fear we are different 'animals' saneagle. I love experimenting but with no engineering background, that tends to be empirical. I also get enjoyment from prolonging the life of bits of technology which often these days has obsolescence built in. In this case it might also have the additional...

    Should I be surprised?

I'll let you know - I am looking for some but quite minimal assistance on a pretty light bike. Peter PS The said recovered batteries seem in pretty good nick in terms of tested capacity

    Should I be surprised?

More sad evidence of aging methinks.o_O 8s2p of course. Lithium titanate sounds expensive - I'm a cheapskate using mostly recovered 18650 2500mA cells. Thanks Peter

    Should I be surprised?

Just as an experiment I connected up my nominal 28.8 V (10S2P) battery to my modified Swytch Mk1 bike which I usually run on variety of nominal 36V batteries (Yose 10.8Ah and Bosch tool 2.6Ah). The display came on showing as expected a low battery voltage. What surprised me was the motor...

How to Build a Bike That Will Last (Almost) Forever

Hmm. My ~50 year old steel framed tourer/road bike (now with modest electrics and indexed derailleur) is a good example.

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

A really interesting read - I've taken a copy so that I can read the details a couple of times. For someone like me, who hasn't had an engineering background, it still seems to come down to the 'suck it and see' approach. I haven't (yet) burned out a motor with my mods. Peter

Topping up a lithium battery with a second battery

Weather is warming up so hope to be able to comfortably experiment again in a safe location. With regard to mobile charging of my 'recovered' lithium ion battery (no BMS, cell voltage monitoring) or other bike batteries, I have ordered a dc dc boost converter of the above type with the idea of...

Any update/experience on alternate battery and controller options to use with Swytch front wheel ? ( eg. Geeko)

I would suggest you do a few searches on this forum for various experiences with controllers and batteries. Personally I am satisfied with my modified Mk1 for my lightweight requirements - battery and layout changes were relatively easy but I might be struggling if the controller failed again...

    Alternative to suspension forks?

I found a short length of 6cm diameter pipe insulation secured with plastic electrical insulation tape worked so well (more comfortable grip) to temporarily replace a damaged grip, that I'm thinking of replacing the other conventional undamaged grip with another homemade one. Peter. PS Those...
