18650 cell types & recelling battery pack

I got the cells from the ebay seller linked in my first post, if they're counterfeit (which I don't believe) then they're very well made as when I measured the out-of-the-packaging voltages of the first batch of 10 I received the voltage difference between the highest and lowest was 0.0004v, the...

18650 cell types & recelling battery pack

Well I put the new cells in my oldest pack last weekend during the cool of the nights, night 1 cutting out the old cells and soldering in the new ones, night 2 I soldered them to the BMS and put everything back inside the shell. Charged it up with the normal charger and all went well. However...

18650 cell types & recelling battery pack

Just placed an order for 28x LG ABD1 3000mAh tabbed cells for about £133, good price & good continuous + peak ampage output ratings that exceed the 7A nominal 15A max controller of my UM36X.

18650 cell types & recelling battery pack

Those 3400mAH do look tempting but current budget constraints may mean I can only get 2600mAH or 3000mAH cells. One thing I hope someone knows the answer to; if I buy cells that have very high continuous amp output will they maintain a relative high ampage output when they get old? I ask...

18650 cell types & recelling battery pack

I have 3 old Urban Mover 26v lithium battery packs that don't hold much charge anymore, the electronics in them are fine they just need new 18650 cells. They're decently built packs which can be taken apart easily, and the cells are held in a specially designed plastic cage, 28 of them wired in...

18650 cell types & recelling battery pack

Couple of years ago I tried to make a capacitive discharge spot welder to help rebuild one of my old ebike battery packs, but to cut a long story short I couldn't do it and someone I knew who's an electronics engineer had moved away making it too difficult to get help from them. So I spent...

Running additional circuits off main battery

I hope you aren't planning on putting many amps through that, I finally got round to wiring up my 2 near identical multimeters which can measure volts+amps and display watts (the VA number) with plugs on so I can measure the efficiency of a DC-DC converter. First the Dimension Engineering...

Yes, Don't Take Capacitors for Granted - YouTube :D That reguator is rated for 45v, replace the caps and it'll probably be ok.

Running additional circuits off main battery

I'm going to do a 3rd incarnation of my bike light setup powered from the bike's battery and wanted more light (360 LEDs is not enough ;)), so with that in mind I decided to upgrade things with a microcontroller with more IO pins to control more lights and be able to make the back light...

You think you got away with it?

How would they manage it, GPS tracking on every vehicle? and what about when you're on private land? Ridiculous.

New Light runs direct from battery.

My bike light draws up to 10 watts from the main battery, but only when it's on high-beam, normally it draws under 4 watts with back light + 60 of the 360 front LEDs on - meaning even if I rode around with the light on full brightness I doubt it would have any noticable effect on power/distance...

    Smartphone controlled AA batteries

I think that bluetooth battery is a good idea but not suitable for gadgets that draw a lot of power from their batteries, the AAA will be the weak link in the chain. And just because tech is old it doesn't mean it's worthless, my 40gb mp3 player is about 8 years old but I could get near £100...

    Rack bag

My pannier bags are just some generic Halfords ones which clip/unclip from the rack in a couple of seconds which makes shopping easy, I neglected to get the largersize of bags because I would forever keep thinking I've got lots of spare space and end up carring many kilos of stuff. I have a...

    Rear light

On the subject of rear lights, has anyone taken stick from drivers who think your rear light is too bright? My current rear light is actually a reflector - Brompton rear reflector excluding bracket - which I have embedded 17 red LEDs into, 12 of them simply make the entire reflector glow...

    The Dog Is OK

One cyclepath I regularly use I often see dogs and always slow down - they're unpredictable so I never know if I have to brake suddenly or if they'll see me as something they should avoid, when the owner holds onto their dog(s) or tell them to stay put I always make sure to thank them verbally...

    DHL Duty & Vat charges

IMHO DHL can go to hell, I once bought something from the US which cost me about £55 including postage, then 5 months later they sent a letter demanding immediate payment of £34 fees.

Too many criminals on our roads

Interesting, thanks for bringing this topic up as I didn't know it was on, partly because I was at the time in Birmingham watching a bunch of crazed nutters risking their lives doing stupid things on wheels :D I will download and watch the programme.

Laser projector bike light for the front

I saw a Mythbusters a few weeks back where they tested if you could cycle under water (tested in a swimming pool) and to show when the back wheel was moving but not giving any traction they painted the wheels+tyres a 'checker' white, it was extremely effective and I wonder how such a tyre colour...

    Bike workstands for pedelecs

That Topeak Prepstand Elite is close to what I paid for the UM30! :) But it won't hold the bike, I just measured the main tube and it's 52mm wide x 72mm high box shape, I don't think most of the clamps designed to hold round tubes will work with this one.
