Battery Unsused for 7 months. Still Safe?

As the post title says. I last charged the Samsung 36V 21Ah battery for my ebike back in March 2022 but due to illness haven't been able to ride and it totally slipped my mind. Then today reading about increasing incidents of fires caused by dendrite build up EV car batteries I suddenly...

Help! [Newbie] Bafang C961 Display - Walk Assist Speed

The walk assist speed of my Bafang C961 display is set at 6 km/h. The advanced settings in the display allow for the overall max speed limit to be set, but obviously I don't want to change this. Is there a way however to change the walk assist speed to something other than 6 km/h?

    Help! [Newbie] Batteries in Autumn/Winter

With the cooler and wetter weather approaching, I (a newbie to ebikes) was looking for some help and advice on best practice for caring for batteries. I have a bike with a Samsung Lithium-Ion 21Ah 36V 756Wh battery. The bike's user manual only says not to charge the battery below 17 °C [edit]...

    Locks

The results of a recent poll on here suggested most respondents use a lock when it comes to ebike security (followed by taking the battery). I'm wondering what type of lock or combination of locks most prefer: d-lock vs chain vs cable vs folding vs something else? I'm particularly interested in...

    Battery Re-charging

What's the 'best' level at which to re-charge a Li-ion battery? Are you supposed to avoid running down a battery to prolong its life?

    BBSxx Question

Apologies for the dumb question, but on the Bafang website there is no mention of BBS01, BBS02 or BBSHD motors yet this site is full of discussions on these. What am I (obviously) missing? Where is manufacturer information on these? Thx.

    Moving Off at Traffic Lights

If you have a non-ebike or ebike without a throttle are there any tips on improving how to move off from a standstill at traffic lights? Even when on my old MTB years ago I always have struggled getting a good start moving off at traffic lights. As well as poor acceleration, I wobble quite a...

    Help! Confused! Controllers and Displays

Sorry, big fat simpleton here. Is there any difference between a "controller" and a "display", as it seems these terms are used interchangeably from what I can tell? E.g. I thought the Bafang C961 was 'just' a display, but elsewhere I've read people referring to it as a controller or...

Ebikes and the Unfit Very Heavy Rider - A Cautionary Tale for Newcomers

I want to preface this post by stressing this is simply one individual's experience and is not meant to reflect that of all other unfit very heavy riders. That said, hopefully it will also help prospective newcomers, particularly those who are unsure if ebikes will meet their need and who may...

Help! 2010 Halfords Apollo Slant MTB. Conversion?

Is this bike a suitable candidate for conversion to an ebike? It's an old silly-cheap-at-the-time 2010s MTB from Halfords into an ebike 250 W, 500-600 kWh, ~80 Nm torque? The bike's a 20"-frame with 26" wheels. Not sure of the weight, about 16 kg. image of bike edited 11 Feb 2021 08:59 How...

I'm about 130 kg (over 6 ft) and looking for suggestions for a suitable ebike. It will be mostly for commuting and (when lockdown ends!) visiting friends/family on roads. Typically looking at round trips of around 25 miles with gradients each of up to 7% over a mile. Budget-wise £1500 max...

The Reality of Owning and Maintaining a Pedelec

Like any other machine pedelecs are not immune to issues/malfunctioning, but no doubt with a bit love and care they will do their job 9 times out 10 without issue. If you had to list 5-10 'challenges' of owning and maintaining a pedelec, in order of frequency or severity, what would they be...
