    Battery Getting Tired?

I had my battery re-celled at Battery World. A very good price and they were able to increase the capacity by fitting better cells. https://batteryworldshop.com/pages/e-bike-battery-rebuilds

    First Electric Bike

Steve, you seem to be very close to us in Rushden so if you want to try other options before you commit to buy you are welcome to come and have a look at/try out our bikes. I have converted my Giant Boulder bike with a Dillinger kit for half of your budget, but that presumes you already have a...

News - DfT: Pedal cycles converted to ‘twist and go’ exempt from type approval

I am delighted at this new revelation as I am one of the relatively few who have converted my own bike, and I mean properly converted, from a standard bike to an EPAC. I can now set my thumb lever back to 25 kph instead of 6 kph, even though I almost never use the thumb lever anyway. I don't...

    Using illegal bikes

I am a Police Officer (and a cyclist!) and in my view you are very unlikely to get stopped for just cycling along, even at slightly elevated speeds, as long as you stay low profile. That is, stick to the other rules of the road. So don't jump red lights, filter dangerously, bang wing mirrors...

Please give me your opinions on my conversion before I rebuild!

I have a 24v Alien conversion on my Giant Boulder and have avoided the issues that you have had. I find my battery-controller pack is very firm indeed, no problems with bouncing, I have done the bolts up very tightly, however. I did have some clearance problems with the right shifter but by...

Attempt to alter pedelec assist action (NRG take note)

I still prefer the higher cadence = more assistance of the standard set-up as it seems logical to me, as I treat my bike as a normal bike that gives assistance to me, rather than an electric bike that I give assistance to. For that reason I use the "throttle" hardly at all and wouldn't miss it...

My project is due shortly - PLEASE HELP

Andy, survey completed. I have to say that you are likely to get very polarised views on any subject when discussed like this and it is not surprising that the people who have had a bad experience will be more vociferous than others who have had a good experience. I have used PayPal on hundreds...

    Pleeeeease give me some advice.

I would not rule out getting an Alien conversion if your current bike is in good order. I have fitted one to my Giant Boulder and I am very happy with the result and at £400 it was excellent value. I saw no sense in getting rid of a perfectly good bike. The kit was very easy to fit and fun too...

    Pedal Sensors

But to answer your questions... the magnets are directional so the assistance only works when pedalling forwards. The way the assistance comes in depends on the controller. On my Alien conversion it is dependent on pedal speed and road speed. It is very controllable, not all or nothing.

    Suzhou Bafang QWSXB vs QWSXB2

Apart from the obvious voltage difference I don't know, however, after a lot of 24v/36v debate with myself I finally bought and fitted a 24v Alien kit to my bike and I do not regret the decision. The fitting is smaller, lighter and neater, in my view, and I find the assistance perfectly...

    Alien kit up and running

Yes, my sensor is on the crank side and I had to put it plastic side towards the magnet, to get any effect. With the magnet going the "right" way it only worked when the pedals were turned backwards but then I reversed the magnet ring and it works correctly. I can confirm that the assistance is...

    Alien kit up and running

I am really glad to read this post as I have found exactly the same issue with my Alien conversion - that is, I get a lot more assistance in the lower gears. This sort of makes sense as I am likely to change down to go up a hill and, frankly, I don't really need the assistance in top on the...

Thinking of fitting a kit myself

I have just fitted an Alien kit to my Giant Boulder bike and encountered some of the same problems you have mentioned. The small front cog interfered with the pedelec sensor, so I just removed it by popping out the rivets. I have never used the small cog and figured it even less likely with the...
