    Pinnacle Mercury Fault

Oops. If the bike is left unused for more than 5-7 days the battery goes to sleep. You need to press the LED on the battery for 10 seconds or so to bring it back to life or plug it in to the charger for 15-30 minutes. Thought I’d posted that when I had the same problem.

    Slime.

I’ve slimed my tubes and, touch wood, not had any issues. My tyres are Kenda and reinforced across the main tread. Friend tried pre-slimed tyres and they were nothing but trouble.

Help! Coast to Coast Trans Pennine Trail

Thanks all. It’s all useful stuff to consider during planning which is most likely some time next year. Hopefully a few pubs will still be open by then.

Help! Coast to Coast Trans Pennine Trail

I should perhaps add that carrying a spare battery isn’t possible due to budget and availability.

Help! Coast to Coast Trans Pennine Trail

Has anyone successfully planned and travelled the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) coast to coast on a reasonably priced e-bike ? A recently retired mate has a bucket list item to do the TPT and as we usually do a weekend ride, makes sense for him to rope me in ! Both in our mid 60s and both have...

    Spoke length help

My Pinnacle has the same motor on a 27.5” rim and it uses 12 g spokes. Not very good ones in my case ! I don’t want to hijack your thread, but what are you using as a speed sensor ?

Help! Bafang Botton Bracket SR PA162/152.32S

Excuse my ignorance on this, but does that involve tightening the cup (the part with 02141 stamped on it) or removing the cup and tightening the splined jobbie that can be seen standing proud in front of it ? It seems to be the splined jobbie that’s the cause of the float as every similar BB...

Help! Bafang Botton Bracket SR PA162/152.32S

It’s similar but mine is purely a speed sensor. A torque sensor combo wouldn’t work for me with a prosthetic ankle. I picked the bike up from a local bike shop today and they have managed to remove the play, but Evans did that and it came back again. It’s the castellated nut or washer on the...

Help! Bafang Botton Bracket SR PA162/152.32S

Is it possible to adjust a bottom bracket or is it a sealed for life component ? The BB is a 68mm BSA thread but I’ve no idea how the internals all fit together.

Help! Bafang Botton Bracket SR PA162/152.32S

Yes. i found that site but it’s a bugger to navigate. There’s a version here but doesn’t specify an axle length. Also I’m concerned about what takes priority - cadence or torque. I can put any effort down my right leg.

Help! Bafang Botton Bracket SR PA162/152.32S

I am hoping someone can point me to a source to buy the above bottom bracket as my existing unit has too much float in it and needs replacing. the BB is a 68mm BSA threaded unit that incorporates a speed sensor. The local bike shop has suggested an alternative but it’s a combined speed and...

Grant Shapps wants a speed limit for cyclists

Don’t forget that Schapps is trained to open his mouth not necessarily engage his brain. Unfortunately that’s not really what we pay him for.

    UART vs CAN comma protocol

It’s a Pinnacle Mercury 2021 from Evans Cycles. Do you know much about them ? Only info I found is that the pedals go round and round.

Help! Spoke tensioning cost at LBS

£15 is okay as long as it doesn’t happen too often. Do you use a spoke tension meter and if so, which one .

Help! Spoke tensioning cost at LBS

That would probably cost me more in skinned knuckle, bust cables, and getting gears reindexed. I’m a DIY disaster. Any idea what an hours rate at a rural LBS might be ?

Help! Spoke tensioning cost at LBS

Any idea what the approximate cost of spoke tensioning would be at a LBS in a rural area. I‘ve got the usual graunchy noise that’s present when freewheeling as well as pedalling and last time Evan’s retensioned it under warranty. I’m out of warranty now so would prefer to use the LBS. Just not...

    UART vs CAN comma protocol

I was interested to read on another thread that UART based ebikes can’t use 3rd party batteries without the right chip or a workaround dongle. I’ve got a Pinnacle Mercury which uses a Bafang hub motor and a Taiwanese battery. Bafang sent me the user guide for the handlebar control unit in both...

    E-Bikes in warm weather

I’m hoping that a cider break after the uphill bit will allow the battery and controller to cool and recover from some of the sag. I appreciate that younger members may prefer water but we‘re in our 60’s and managed 1976 ok.

I’m guessing 35°C is relatively mild by Cyprus standards then.
