Two boys die in "ebike" accident: Cardiff riot broke out after 'police prevented parents seeing fatal crash victims', close relative says

All due respect mate, but reading some of your posts on here I reckon you are full of **** and actually don't have the remotest clue about Economics.

Two boys die in "ebike" accident: Cardiff riot broke out after 'police prevented parents seeing fatal crash victims', close relative says

Interesting and well done you. I turn 50 in August, but sadly I don't think I'll be able to retire just yet. However, as a major life plus, I did recently redeem my mortgage, so now 100% own the house I live in. Just the one car and the one e bike.

Two boys die in "ebike" accident: Cardiff riot broke out after 'police prevented parents seeing fatal crash victims', close relative says

Forgive my ignorance, but there's something about all this that I can't quite get me 'ed round. Forget the police for a moment. From where I was looking, the two lads appeared to be on a bike which is designed for one person. Not a motor bike with a pillion passenger, but a bike (e or...

Two boys die in "ebike" accident: Cardiff riot broke out after 'police prevented parents seeing fatal crash victims', close relative says

Perfectly true. You are under no legal obligation to wear a helmet when riding a bike, be it an e bike, or conventional push bike. Yet the media coverage has made a big issue of them not wearing helmets, but weirdly omitted to mention there were two characters on a bike meant only for one.

Two boys die in "ebike" accident: Cardiff riot broke out after 'police prevented parents seeing fatal crash victims', close relative says

For me the most blindingly obvious factor is that there were two of them on a non tandem bike, rendering it very difficult to control. The police were half a mile away when the accident occurred, after they had "escaped" down an alley or blocked off road. I'd say it was their fault. Blaming the...

Do you leave your display attached to your ebike, when leaving it locked in a public place?

I leave mine on, but the longest I've ever left the bike unsupervised is 5 minutes outside the Post Office. No problems so far.

    Another Ebike conversion kit death

I would never mess with the electrics on either my bike or any other, as I freely admit I just don't have the technical knowledge or expertise to do so. If anything needed doing I'd take it to a professional to do.

Is this a technical breach of the law? Uncertain

If it had been a cop, you could have been done and got a fine . So maybe you should be grateful to the guy for alerting you. Had I been you, the first thing I would have done when arriving home, would be to check the actual law. Although I couldn't find too much first time, hence the thread...

Is this a technical breach of the law? Uncertain

Thanks, that's interesting. I noted - today actually - that at the island part of the crossing I use to join a cycle path, there was a red bike symbol and red man shown, with the man shown dismounted from the bike. I took that as obviously meaning that I was doing the right thing by indeed...

Is this a technical breach of the law? Uncertain

To be honest I'm not that bothered eitherway, but I was curious as to the letter of the law. At the time it wasn't at all obvious what it was. I have used a crossing (with an island in the middle) to get across and join a cycle path on the other side. I've cycled along the road to the island in...

Is this a technical breach of the law? Uncertain

A few weeks ago I pulled up at a pedestrian crossing which was just going to red. The only person using it was a guy with a bike who cycled over to my side and then just cycled off down the road. He was ahead of the lights, but he wasn't a pedestrian going to the pavement on the other side. I...

E-scooters 'are five times safer than bikes' - Study by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents

Wonder what weird algorithm came up with that rubbish conclusion. Safer my arse.

Dan Walker warns cyclists after bike crash - 'The helmet I was wearing saved my life'

Entirely 100% the car driver's fault. But I personally wouldn't cycle on such a road, helmet or otherwise.

    Preventing bike being stolen

I suppose if you used that defence in court they'd assume you were either taking the wotsit, or had learning difficulties. Sorry, but I just find it difficult to comprehend that you didn't realise spraying paint in someone's face could get in their eyes and blind them, or cause severe damage...

    Cyclist Cop Dies

Using your phone while driving in motion should be an automatic 6 month jail sentence (not suspended), notwithstanding it hasn't caused an accident. If it has caused an accident, then the book should be thrown at them. There are absolutely no excuses, zero, zilch. These twats are a grade 1 menace.

why is this even up for debate?

"Impossible"? - given that other cyclists pass the time of day, it's clearly not.

why is this even up for debate?

Hmm, I think I'd just find a different route. On the basis that I'd sooner be cautious and alive, than legally in the right but dead. No brainer.

why is this even up for debate?

Fair point. Let me re-phrase The one's I've come across don't seem very friendly, when compared to other cyclists.
