An ME sufferer has asked advice on eapcs with throttle. He has been offered Freego, Wisper, Woosh and Juicy so far. Which will go up the steepest hill without pedalling, and what gradient with say a 75kg rider?
Found great new ebike shop in Marlborough today just off high street near WH Smith. It's eCycleUK with another branch in Stroud. They sell A2B, Haibike,Raleigh etc. and have a good few bikes on display. They can supply Stromer bikes as well and apparently the Stroud shop has one in stock. They...
Just had email from James Brown at Dft that says "Where an EAPC is required to be type approved procedures are in place to allow this. The manufacturer should contact the UK's authority VCA who will be able to advise the approval process."
Their government replied very quickly and clearly to my query. Their law is still as it was - 200 watts, 40 kg, 15 mph, 14 year age limit, no restriction on throttles.
Why not specify all bikes with 4 mph throttles which user can alter to full throttle via lcd? Keen types could even go for SVA after doing it,(in 2017)!
Let's not give up in the battle to keep the full range throttle available in the UK on EAPCs. After all , the government minister ,Claire Perry , promised to keep them in her statement to Parliament this year.
The new Type Approval regs due on 1.1.17 have a suitable class for powered bicycles...
Having just bought a new battery for my Tonaro, I took the old one apart. I was surprised how well balanced all ten cells were. The fault was corrosion on the 30 amp output fuse contacts. With those cleaned up it works fine again. Not bad for over four years regular use.
Has anyone got a clear idea of the details of type approval requirements for twist and go EAPCs, and thus how they differ from those for L1eA powered cycles up to 1000 watts which require registration etc?
No controversy intended. I've not worn a cycle helmet for over 60 years and respect the views of those who don't, BUT my best friend is in hospital with fractured skull after coming off.Makes we wonder whether to start wearing one after all, and if so what?
We sometimes discuss the pros and cons of using variable gear ratios in the drivetrain of our electric bikes. I've noticed that all the electric cars on the market so far have a single fixed gear ratio. Electric motors give most torque but least efficiency from zero rpm and most power and...
Has anyone got access to UK sales figures for the different ebike brands? I'd love to know Ezee,Freego,Kalkhoff,KTM,Kudos,Tonaro, Wisper,Woosh etc.sales volumes!
I love derailleurs for their efficiency, choice of ratios, speed of gearchange and ease of accessibility. For me they add to the enjoyment of cycling, as a good manual gearbox in a car does to driving.
But with a crank drive ebike derailleurs need very careful treatment. So much so that Kudos...
Our friend PF has a problem with her Gepida. She has rightly posted it on the Technical section but some members may have missed it there. d8veh has responded but has advised her to wait for flecc or tillson to confirm his diagnosis. Can anyone help? Thanks.
Is it possible to make a uk legal ebike limited to 15.5 mph but which can climb a 10% hill at 15.5 mph without pedalling? This could sell really well-certainly to me! Two current threads seem to me to suggest it is possible! A crank drive through gears with a 250 watt motor that could peak at...
