    Drum brakes (again!)

I've always complained about lack of adjustment on my brakes. Last weekend they stopped working completely, and I haven't found anyone to have a look at it. So earlier I decided to do it myself. I was a bit scared as I've never really taken any bike apart before, but thought I might as well as...

    Bully's special prize.

Did anyone ever see the all ladies episode of Bullseye from 1984/1985? One of the prizes was an electric bike. Does anyone know which model it was? Sharon Kemp was the special guest in the episode.

    Rear wheel puncture

I don't know what the hell happened. I was riding this afternoon, after 2 miles I made a left turn, and the bike wouldn't accelerate, shortly afterwards I felt the back of the bike wobbling. I pulled over and heard air rushing out. Had a look at the tyre but there was no sign of puncture marks...

This is what happens if you try to generate your own electricity.

BBC News - Dundee man accused of 'recklessly producing household electricity' Haha. I wonder what his method was?

Need help with a battery pack.

Today I received a 36v 10ah LiMn2O4 battery. It is supposed to have been in storage for a year, but not used. There was supposed to be a diagram of the charge/discharge cables but I haven't got it. Anyway I assumed the two thicker wires were the discharge ones, and tried measuring voltage. It is...

    Switches got wet.

A few months ago I was riding in rain, and left the bike parked in the rain too for a while. When I went to switch it on, the indicator beeper kept going off, but the indicator lights worked normally. I operated the switch many times and eventualy it stopped. After that it happened again, and it...

    Gradients?

I've used bikehike.co.uk - Home to work out gradients on some of the roads I travel on. What units are they giving the gradients in? It doesn't say! And how could I convert them to degrees?

Chain still keeps coming off. Need to mount a chain tensioner somewhere.

My bike has always had this problem from new. Local bike shops have tried pulling the rear wheel back to take up the slack, and this has only worked for a short while. Last summer my freewheel failed and when the shop fitted a new one, the problem went away completely for the rest of the year...

    Cannot unlock my bike!!!!!!!!!!

This afternoon I tried to unlock the huge padlock and chain securing my bike, and the key wouldn't open it. Sprayed oil and tried again, and the key snapped off in the lock! I had to walk to my destination and back which I didn't enjoy at all! The chain/padlock is the Onguard 5017 which I've...

    I've been very bad.

Went to look at some Vespa scooters yesterday to see if my feet could touch the ground when sat on it, and if I could handle the weight. The GTS was very comfortable and spacious, and balanced well. Good looking machine too. I could imagine myself riding all over the UK on one. I want it!

Where can I get IEC connectors (kettle lead) with the centre pin rotated, and........

also looking for a lightbulb for my headlight to keep as a spare. I cannot find the IEC connector with the middle pin rotated at all. Firstly it was for if I made a new battery case. The other reason is so I can put a short wire between the existing battery and the connector on the bike (for...

Scared my throttle is going to fall apart.

If I hold the end of it, it does wobble around a bit, but it works fine. On the left bar, the control for the headlights, indicators and horn snapped off from the handlebar. I glued the plastic bits back together. I remember seeing the parts listed on a Chinese website, but not now. Knew I...

Need a new 36v battery for my bike.

Following on from this thread: http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/9900-battery-cutting-out-higher-voltages-symptom-failing-battery.html I would like to get a new case, but if not I will reuse the current one. Here's some pics of the dimensions, how it slots in under the seat...

Is battery cutting out at higher voltages a symptom of a failing battery?

I've noticed my Phylion battery cut out at around 36v today. A few months ago it would cut out at 33-34v. Range loss is minimal, about 1/4 mile but I will know better when the weather gets back to normal temperature (i.e. cold ;)) The battery is over 4 years old and I've completed nearly 280...

RTG instead of usual e-bike batteries?

Radioisotope thermoelectric generator - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia That would solve all the problems with range, charging time, and battery life. However would you like to ride a bike with a nuclear reaction going on between your legs (or under the seat in my case), or store the RTG...

Pedals go round but won't turn the wheel, no fault with the chain.

Today I noticed when I pedal it felt like the chain was slipping off, and eventually it stopped working completely. I only pedal on steep hills and to help the bike accelerate from a stand. I was expecting the chain to be hanging off completely but it was seated perfectly and going round...

Can I make a battery pack with these power tool batteries?

I recently got a new cordless saw (Bosch GSA 10.8vLi if anyone's interested) and it came with 2 batteries. I also have two batteries from cordless drill/driver I've already got. And now two chargers. Bosch Li-lon Battery Pack 10.8V | Screwfix.com They are 10.8v 1.3ah lithium, with a fast...

Might be another glitch with posting. Words repeating.

Recently I noticed in my previous forum posts that words have been repeated twice, usually at the end of the first line and the beginning of the second. I don't usually make mistakes like that, and looking back through my post history, am surprised to find so many. Now I've realised it's not...

    Another charger died.

My 36v Sunlova charger died after 6 months, and 76 charges. Better than the first one which lasted only 2 minutes! I don't know if there's any guarantee on these things, but luckily I have a spare. It did make funny noise when plugged in, the fan was buzzing around for the last few weeks, but...

Using an e-bike battery for other purposes.

I had a crazy thought about using the battery to somehow power my computer if the power failed. Would some sort of power inverter, like 36VDC - 240VAC work? The computer is an all-in-one with 19.5v 6.7A power adapter.
