    Nexus twistgrip shifter question

This relates to a Nexus 5 setup on a 2023 Gazelle Grenoble C5HMB. How stiff should the twistgrip be when changing down? Obviously it will need more of a twist going down the gears than up, but mine needs a fair old amount of twisting compared to the 8-speed Nexus on the wife's Batavus (which...

    Shimano Nexus 5 shifting issue

I have a 2023 Gazelle pedelec with belt drive to a Nexus 5 hub. It's done about 1500 miles and has recently started acting up when changing gear. Sometimes when I change up, all that happens is that the shifter moves to the next highest gear indication, but the hub doesn't change gear...

How to get at motor mounting bolts?

Bike is a 2023 Gazelle Grenoble C5 HMB and I need to check that mounting bolts are tight. Question is, how do I get at them? I guess I take off the left-hand crank then undo the screws holding the plastic cover on, but if anybody knows what happens next that would be helpful! And while...

    Belt drive "creaking"

I have a 2023 model Gazelle Grenoble C5 HMB, which has belt drive to the Shimano 5-speed hub. The belt's started "creaking" intermittently from time to time for no apparent reason. I'm unable to decide what the rate at which it "creaks" ties in with, but it seems to vary according to gear...

Just out of curiosity ... White step-through frame, rear hub motor, black battery behind seat tube, red/pink throttle(?) button on r/h of bars, black rear carrier with rat trap, pink plastic "wicker" basket on the front, European-style noseless saddle. Recently bought new on Facebook, apparently.

Question about Bosch E-bike Flow app

I'm using the current version of E-bike Flow with a 2023 Gazelle and an Android phone (Samsung galaxy A14). All is good except for one mystery. At top left of my home screen, alongside the time, there's always a bicycle symbol. When i drag down, it says "Keep e-bike connected". Does...

    Tyre rotation direction

The Schwalbe Active Plus tyres on my ebike have arrows on them indicating the correct direction of rotation. I can understand it making a difference on a motorbike or a car, but why does it matter on a bicycle? What is it about the tyre construction that dictates which way round it's fitted?

What does the trade use ...

by way of a repair/maintenance stand when it comes to step-through pedelecs? We have a cheapo stand from Lidl which works well enough with bikes which have a crossbar, but I was just wondering what the trade uses instead where there's no crossbar ...

    Yamaha motor removal

The Yamaha motor of the wife's 2019-model Batavus E-go is well past its best-before so it's time to see about getting it fettled. What sort of a job is it likely to be to remove it? Having spent a large part of my life rebuilding motorbikes it's not the mechanical aspect that concerns me but...

As in ... The wheel still runs dead true and is still exactly concentric with the hub. Can I get away with carefully squeezing them straight by means of a small steel vice with ally jaw liners?

    How to identify Bosch motor?

I have a new 2023-model ebike which has a Bosch Performance Line motor rated at 75Nm torque. Seeing as how the maker's bumph doesn't tell me and there seems to be no label on the motor, how can I tell if it's a BDU450CX or a BDU490P?

    Brake disc wear

The wife has a 2022 Gazelle ebike with 5-speed Nexus hub and Tektro discs. Because of the steep hills round here and also the way she uses her brakes, I'm thinking ahead to the point at which it becomes obvious that her rear disc in particular is past its best before. So ... Q1 Is there a...

For Sale 2022 Gazelle Bloom C380 HMS size 53cm suits 5'6"-6'0"

Medical issues force very reluctant sale of my lovely Bloom C380HMS pedelec. Bought new from Cambridge Cycle Company in August this year, it's done just 308 miles. Frame size is 53cm, which suits both me at 6ft and my wife at 5ft 6in with just saddle height adjustment. It's designed to carry...

    Pondering on motor power ...

This is in the context of an old git riding crank-engined ebikes on the roads for everyday transport. 1500 miles a year in all weather except ice, can't be doing with Magic Hats, etc etc ... So, the last ebike had a 70N/m Yamaha motor and 8-speed Nexus hub. Brilliant bike, but it also had a...

question about 2020-year Yamaha crank motor

I would like to know the rated torque figure for the Yamaha mid motor fitted to my wife's 2020 Batavus pedelec, but I'm getting nowhere searching online - probably because i don't know the model number of the motor. Is it possible to tell that by looking at it?

To charge or not to charge ...

Just moved from my 2020 Batavus pedelec to a very nice new Gazelle and wondering what current thinking is about battery charging. Top up after any significant use aiming to keep it (more or less) full? Let it run down to 25% or so then charge? Or does it make no odds ...?
