General concensus on TSDZ, ToSeven, and any similar competitors

Have you tried a hub motor? How is it to ride if you aren't using the motor? I'm not intending to be obnoxious. I like hearing responses that include people saying that there ride experience validates my research but the strong feelings of people like Saneagle keeps a kernel of questioning...

At the moment those motors, as nice as they are, are not in the running unless a used or clearance deal appears.

This really hits at some of my confusion with Saneagles advice and similar advice on other forums. I'm coming at this from a strict analog biking situation. With proper gearing I don't find averaging 12 mph to be all that hard on flats or rolling hills over a 10 mile distance. I'm fine with that...

That makes perfect sense and matches up with the idea that most (all?) to the torque sensor kits I have seen include a magnet ring for rotational speed sensing also. On the other hand multiple levels that I can more or less control via choosing gears and adjusting how hard I pedal sounds fairly...

Your use and solutions sound pretty close to mine. How much improvement do you find with the OSF compared to the stock firmware on your TSDZ2s? I could flash the firmware if I have to but I'd prefer not and at least one place seems to have stopped selling with the OSF installed.

I respect that you are a long term member of the forum and have infinitely more experience than I do with ebikes. On the other hand it feels like you are missing the point of my bike riding. I really have no desire to ride around 20 mph regularly. I would actually be fine with cruising at my...

Upfront note - I'm in the US so while I'd be happy to learn about vendors I'm really looking for specifics about the state of the torque sensor mid drive motor conversion kits. I am in the planning stage of converting an existing bike to a torque sensing mid drive ebike. USA Class 1...

A big stretch of rainy weather has passed and my potential starter bike is back from the tune up it desperately needed. Some short trips have shown me that I'm fine on flats but struggle with even sustained 5% grade. I'm in good hiking shape but way out of biking practice. The bike handles...

Don't remind me! I haven't had steel rims this century but I remember them in the rain. I'll seriously think about front disc brakes but I'm almost certain that I will get the conversion in a working state before adding them. Of course if it really feels unsafe of if I can't keep myself from...

I don't really understand this statement. Which, I'll admit, is why I put the apology in the first post about my mentality. I've stated that I want to use a motor to make a bike move at 15mph. That is well within the expected use for such a bike with the original rim brakes. I'm not light at...

I possibly should add that I'm looking at mostly 30-40 mile range but, as with the brakes, I might well be willing to buy a smaller battery pack initially to give me around a 20 mile range. Then if I do want to get into 40 mile rides I can buy the bigger battery or a second smaller one to carry...

Thanks. I'm an American. I'm joining this forum as sort of a different take from Endless Sphere. They have loads of great information but from my reading they tend to lean farther into the idea that power solves everything / higher speed than I am aiming for. I'm really aiming for an electric...

Hi all! Retired guy getting back into cycling (which is a crazy way to phrase things since I really haven't done a lot of cycling since the 1990s). Right now I'm easing back into things with an used old Trek comfort/commuter/hybrid but ultimately I'm interested in adding a bit of a boost with...
