Hi I have not posted for a long while but have been avidly reading- honestly. I am in a quandry more so since my E-Motions were destroyed in a Spanish fire a few weeks ago, i am retired so my needs are not for commuting simply for pleasure .My needs appear to require a good quality folder that could go on gentle off road tracks/trails and be powered by something reliable to use on hilly terrain ie up to 1 in 4 and pedelec.

None of the folding pedelecs i have looked at seem to fit the bill in terms of style, spec.weight etc. and so a conversion looks to be my way forward the lower spec and thus cheaper BionX kits seem to be the power source i would like BUT i cannot seem to be able to come up with a Folding Bike that suits

Please ANY suggestions

Alan

Hi Gordonal,

Sorry to hear about the loss of your bikes in a fire, that is really bad news.

When you are considering a conversion kit for a 20" folder you might want to consider and eZee kit, performance wise and value for money, they are more than a match for BionX.

See here eZee Conversion Kits - electric bikes and conversion kits

As for the bike, have you considered a Dahon Jetstream, one seriously nice folder.

Of course we also have our own ready converted eZee Dahon Bullet.eZee Dahon - electric bikes and conversion kits

Have seen many folders with bionix kits over on German pedelec, they have a dedicated bionix forum? I think it's a nice choice.

Have a look at my AVE MH7 thread it's a cracking bike and may well suit you also.....

Hi eddieo

I looked and admired your new AVE MH7 bike when you first posted it up a few weeks ago . I

attempted to find some extra info. AND a UK dealer to no avail , I seem to think you mentioned semi-

folder . Please can you give some buying detail and elabourate on the semi-folding aspect

Hi Alan,

Unless I am very much mistaken, AVE don't actually make a folder.

If you like the BionX how about the ready made Birdy Hybrid. I’ve never ridden the powered one but have enjoyed many miles on the non electric ones. I know it’s 18" wheels rather than 20" but its full suspension makes it ride like a much larger wheeled bike.

Unfortunately it’s not cheap.

Interesting looking bike. Being able to fit Big Apples is nice, though I guess with full suspension less important.

"With a starting weight of only 18 kg, it is one of the lightest electric bikes on the market"

not true that would be a two speed Ti Brompton with a Goldant Motor at 11.5kg + maybe 3-4kg for a similar capacity battery and its 36v not 26v :p

Though I guess is does say "one of".

Yikes £3169!

The handle bars fold, I remove the seat and drop out front wheel and it fits under our camper bed a treat...it is light years ahead of any proper folder I have had and have had four.it's a sensational little bike... Best call EBCO and try one

Details on other thread? But they are available here from EBCO who will arrange pick up from dealer convenient to you....

And it does say 'on the market'. Are you marketing yours now?

Yes, but you do get free shipping!

The BionX, being direct drive, is rather heavy and for this reason would not be my first choice for a folder if weight is important.

I do like the idea of an electric Birdy though and if I could find a suitably priced s/h one I’d be very tempted to try a conversion. I’m not sure the unusual front suspension arrangement would be suitable for a motor so it would probably have to be rear drive. That would rule out the Tongxin but a Q100 in the rear would still be considerably lighter, and cheaper, than the BionX.
