Can I use 36 V on a 24 V Sunstar kit?

Could I use the newer 36 volt Sunstar battery on a 24 volt Sunstar motor/display?

They went out of business but sell there stock.

Could I upgrade to 36 volt or will I burn the electronics?
Would these somewhat old stock be still in good shape?
Or could I use a battery from an other brand?

Thanks for any advice.

It will all depend on the controllers capacitors and whether they can handle the extra voltage, the mid drives have integrated controllers and usually they will be potted in silicone to prevent moisture ingress. Only by looking at and old broken unit will you know if it is possible, if in doubt don't do it. Extra heat in confined space may lead to controller issues and the extra motor speed will likely lead to a less efficient motor as it likely will be to fast.

Using a higher voltage on a crank drive motor doesn’t work. 36v will make the crank spin 50% faster so you won't be able to move your feet fast enough to keep up. Secondly. It will make the motor less efficient, which will make it heat up until something burns.

The 36v Sunstar is different to the 24v one. It has motor windings that are designed for 36v so that it remains efficient at the speeds you pedal it.
