Capacitor in a battery?

Hi everyone,
my project of rebuilding a battery for my Volt Savile continues and it's almost finished, I have almost everything cleared but I have a question.

When I dismantled the previous one, made with flat grey cells (sorry but I forgot the name) I found, with all the other cable I cut, a small capacitor. Unfortunately, for the shape and packaging of the cells, I had to cut all the cables without knowing exactly where they were connected.

Of course some are absolutely clear (charging, discharging)...but I have no idea where this capacitor was connected and for what role.

The capacitor is a 1000uF 50v.

Any idea from your side?

Normally, it would be directly across the battery wires . I guess it was added because voltage/current spikes were tripping the BMS over-current protection.

Most controllers have substantial capacitors accross the battery wires for the same reason, so an additional one in the battery isn't needed.
