Finding my (electric) wheels

I posted earlier having bought a carrera e bike and managed to recover the battery from a low voltage.

I now have a second battery bought on ebay second hand and received this morning.
This show maximum charge on the lights (4 bars) and shows over 39v when multimeter is used.
But the charger just shows a green light so not charging, the battery shows no signs of ever being opened up.
Any ideas what could be wrong, if anything at all.
I have not tried it on my bike yet, it is the 3 pin (pre 2019?) version.

I have tried it on my bike on the high setting for a couple of miles and it will now charge so i guess its working ok but does not have full capacity any more.
Have put it back on charge now and will measure the voltage when its fully charged.
My other battery read 41.9v when fully charged, what is the minimum for a battery before it becomes junk?
Also the plastic clip on the bottom of the battery is broken so i had to put some tape around the battery to hold it in place, any ideas how to repair this?

41. 5v is likely the minimum one would expect to see for a 36v battery, less then 41.5 v and the cells ( if all balanced) will likely be suffering from ageing . Ageing being capcitiy loss and mostly caused by higher internal resistance.
A battery in that condition is still useable but mostly at only lower current draw levels.

I have a pair of older 14.5ah batteries that only charge to 41.4v (cells well balanced)
Samsung genuine 29E cells, at high power 17-20a I get less then 10 miles . the batteries cut out once SOC starts to drop below 39v. At low power 4-5a I can get mid twenties mileage and finally at vey low current <2a I can get nearly 40 miles .

To manage battery current draw one needs current control systems and not speed control systems , the latter draws max current until the max speed on the PAS level is reached.

So it finished charging and i measured 41.57v so its not bad, it does have the missing clip though which means i will have to find a way to secure it in place.

It's probably out of balance, so might be worth opening it to check. Alternatively, check the voltage when it's fully charged. The further it's below 42.0v, the more out of balance it is. If it is a bit low, try leaving it on charge for a long time after the green light to see if it rises a bit, then repeat until it's close to 42v.
