Just wondering if any one has tried swapping out a Carrera Suntours rear hub motor with a China one 250 W AKM or Bafang for instance.

We know you can leave the Suntours motor on a Carrera and change the rest of the kit .

Is there any reason it would not work the other way round as all the wires are the same amount and colours?.

Cheers

Doesn't the frame have a non-standard drop-out on the left side? Look at the inside face of the drop-out. I seem to remember somebody saying something about doing it, but I don't know the details.

Not the drop out will the China motors run on Suntours battery and controller ECT .

It’s only the pre 2019 Carreras that have the wide drop out , but pulling the frame in as you suggested works just fine once the brake is lined up and gears adjusted.

They'll probably work, but you might need to adjust the sequence of the wires in the motor connector.

Ok thanks may give it a go when I get time.

These Suntours motors seem to have a lot of problems with water ingress just striped out an old Cross fire one to see how hard it is to get the Axel out that’s a no go and to get the nylon gears that are ok But the colour of the grease murky brown obviously water mixed in with it .

It was also rusty and completely seized up looks like a lot of water got in and sat in there .
