Hi,
I have a 5-wire LED display 880 (which is digital) and I want to change this to a compatible LCD Display where I can change the max speed.

Currently, there are 5 wires:
- Red = VB+
- Blue = Control
- Black = GND
- Green = DATA1
- Yellow = DATA2

I can't find any information on compatible displays where I can change the max speed setting. Anyone can make a suggestion?

Thanks

What bike do you have? Is it a kit or factory made? Changing the display may not necessarily let you increase the max. speed of your bike, it will depend on the controller that is fitted. Photo of the controller may help.

Different LCDs use different data protocols and different controllers have different programming, so the LCD needs to be matched to the controller. It's always best to buy them as a matched pair if you want certainty about the functions.

SkyBike show us a pic of your controllers label for the makers name.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. You can see a picture of the controller below. It's the KT36/48ZWSRT-LCD-C&D. I have a 36V Battery.

I think that the KT-LCD3 display might be compatible and allows me to change the max speed.

It's a KT controller, so any of the KT LCD displays will work, but they still might not let you delete the speed limit, as it may be factory locked. Do you have a single white wire connector which just loops in/out of the controller? This is fitted on some KT's and is a speed restriction wire. If it's there and connected together, unplug it to de-restrict.

Hi, there is only one cable which loops out and back into the controller. It's blue. But I think you might be right, this can be the speed limit restriction cable. Can I do any harm testing this with disconnected cables?

Blue is normally cruise, but I remember some where the blue loop had a different function, though I can't remember what. It might well have been speed limit. Even if it is the cruise control, it should be disconnected.

Disconnected it, no change noticed. I'm starting to doubt if I can even change the max speed limit. Is there any way to be sure about this? When I'm driving around 25 km/h the support just stops or goes to a minimum. I want the motor to give all it's got ;-)

That is the legal speed cut off operating. You can replace the controller with a KT one that not restricted. Some clear photos or the wiring and connectors around the controller will help with recommending one to suit your bike. have you disconnected that white 6 pin connector in your photo?

Hi, i haven't changed the 6 pin connector, so this was disconnected when I opened it. I will take some clear pictures of the wiring this evening. Thanks for the help so far!

If you said what part of the country you lived in someone near by with a lcd1, 2 or lcd3 could temp swap over to see if speed limit can be altered. If the limit is programmed then you will need to get another controller from PSWPower.

Ok, so in the attachment I tried to identify all the wires. I labeled them.

The speed sensor wire (red, blue, black) is not connected.

The blue wire I disconnected yesterday was the cruise wire I think.

The 6P Plug is not connected now. I think this is for a speed sensor inside the motor?

I did not find any white wire that comes out and goes back into the connector so the question remains. How can I get the max speed out of my motor? Do I need another connector or can I modify this connector so there is no speed limit?

On the motor, I see the following "BFSWXB 36V 250W 170R"

Thanks in advance

This controller should be almost a plug and play replacement for yours and work with you existing LED display, although i can see a couple of connectors that don't match, so these will need to be changed. It will also give you a nice bit of extra power on hills as it's 20 amp.

If you want to upgrade to the LCD3 as well, I would suggest you buy this kit as it has a speed sensor with it which you will need and some spares for the future. LCD3 is 3rd from the right.

Hold on. That's a 170 rpm motor. What size wheels do you have? 170 rpm won't go any faster than 15 mph in a 26" wheel. Next time the battery is nearly empty, lift the wheel off the ground and check how fast it goes in the air. If it does around 15mph, then you have a chance with derestriction. If it's less than 15 mph, you have no chance.

I don't have a mph meter at the moment so it's hard to say. What can I do to derestrict the motor?

If it is indeed a 170 rpm motor, which it looks like it is, the only way to get more speed is with a higher voltage battery, so you'll need a new battery, motor controller and control panel, which would cost around £250.

170 rpm is quite slow, so all you need to do is put some tape around a couple of spokes, then count the revolutions in one minute. For a 26" wheel, anything less than 200 rpm can't be derestricted. You must do it with a nearly empty battery.

The obvious choice is to probably get a new hub with a faster winding.

Apologies for not spotting the motor speed before recommending replacement parts. Having looked again at your controller, it's from C&D Industries, a Chinese reseller, so is most likely, not speed restricted, so as vfr rightly says, it's your motor reaching it's max. speed. i've not come across a motor speed that low before, must be good on hills, or ideal for a penny-farthing conversion.:D
