Charger/battery renewal

My wife's charger has packed up - no signs of life at all.
I thought I would renew the battery at the same time. After 8yrs, the bike is still only on it's 2nd bttery.
As the bike is a Yamaha PAS, I am concerned about the probable long shelf life of any NiCd batteries available? Any thoughts anyone?

Personally, for the probable £300+ cost I would be thinking of a new bike, but my wife is resistant to change!

As you seem to be aware Robert, NiCads are longer made due to environmental reasons, stocks are nearly exhausted and those that remain are old.

To check on availability of the Yamaha parts and replacements, there's this specialist:

Electric Bike Centre Yamaha

If you feel the present battery will last a while yet, the Shenzen chargers from Powerstream in the USA are known and reliable, and with the present state of the dollar and the resulting exchange rate, very low priced for us in the UK. Make sure you change from the top postage rate shown at the checkout into the standard or Express USPS rate though.

Use the menu at the left for chargers and then navigate to the one you want. I'd suggest for 24 volts the part number PST-3PN9530-24-1.8A.

Erik/Flecc - thank you for the info.
I have found a supplier for the spares I need, which includes a new "fresh" battery, not one which has been on a shelf for years.
Thanks again for your interest.
