Mike Cooper son of John Cooper to launch first electric bike.

Looks a very clean line city bike . Like the styling for this kind of ebike very much

But, and a big but for me, integrated battery and motor and controller ? Asking for trouble and difficulty in repairing. And Bluetooth is a bit flaky at best. How will that be when the unit is within a working motor hub. And got a battery and controller in their too.

Reliability, range and repair

All issues I’d expect in this bike

As so often with new e-biking introductions, he clearly hasn't done enough market research. This won't meet what the majority want from e-biking.

But of course a few will fall for the Cooper name association, just as they do with the BMW Mini Cooper.

The chap who runs the local chippy wants an ebike to ride to work and loose a bit of weight. He has seen both my bikes and I gave him some general advice on how they work and how far I can go on a charge (500w battery gets me at least 30 miles but possibly 40 plus if not too hilly). I was not too surprised to find he had bought a gtech because it will also go at least 30 miles, was much cheaper and most importantly it was the only one he had any knowledge of! (As seen on tv).

the battery charger outputs 31V 1.5A, charging time 3 hours, that is about 26V 4.5AH. They could have installed a socket for a second battery.
Some designers go through hoops to save a few hundred grams or the look of the battery.

Returning to my bike after a bit of shopping at the supermarket I found a older couple keen to chat about electric bikes.

They had just bought a pair of Cytronex kits to electrify their bikes. I had not looked at the Cytronex site for some time but having been prompted by my conversation with these nice people had a look and the kits do look good.

I got the feeling however that they had not shopped around much.

There are plenty of steep hills in the countryside around me and I could not help but worry that if they use the electric assist a lot they may find the bottle battery range could be limiting.

However the quality of the product looks very good indeed. I light kit that if added to a quality road bike would result in a light and agile electric bike.

Spoilt by a daft sprocket sensor instead of using a cheaper and more reliable normal pedal sensor. When I tried it at the last NEC bike show, it was intermittent, so a complete waste of time, but I think it was still under development. maybe better now. the motor looks like a Q100 or Q85, so you could save a lot of money by buying a Q100 with an S06S controller with normal PAS and throttle, then fit any 36v battery you want. Plenty of bottle batteries on Aliexpress:

some people would pay double for a kit that has no wire.

I'm just getting the bits together for my next build, which will have no wires apart from the motor. You'll be able to remove it while you go shopping.

is it the logical next step of your tiny xiongda project?
it won't take you long to put a kit together so I hope you'll post a thread about it in weeks not months.

You'll have to wait. Important parts will be ordered tonight. Some are already here and others are already on order. The bike will be lighter and more stealthy.
