Heinzmann Classic error code

I've had a Heinzmann Classic retro-fitted on my trike for years and it has done a sterling job of transporting me and 3 dogs around, it's my only form of transport. I'm getting an intermittent error code which, consulting the manual, means "No communication with the battery". The first time it happened I still had power (only the throttle is wired up rather than the pedelec option) but since then there has been nothing and it's taking more restarting (ie turning it on and off) to right itself. Is there anything I (no relevant skills) can try before I take it to an expert? We've had an awful lot of rain for what seems like months so I was wondering if that might be an issue.

You'll need to give some more details, with pictures if you can. What display unit do you have? How old and what type is the battery? When does the fault occur, is there a pattern to it that you can discern?

Two mostly likely candidates for water ingress are throttle and display.
If water has got in the display then it causes shorting/contact issues with switching, try removing the display and place in a warm place to see if it dries out, place it in a bag with rice or silicon sachets to draw out moisture.

Aside to that but less likely an issue is the battery docking contacts, water damage/oxidisation can occur. If suspected on looking possible lightly a braid/clean them and add a smear of Vaseline/grease to see if it helps with contact issues.

Pinning down the culprit won't be straight forward often swapping out the first two is a step forward, but willy nilly changing them might prove a costly if they don't cure the problem.
