Been watching this forum with interest since both myself and partner decided to get into electric cycles.
I purchased a Dutch Batavus some months ago for my partner.
Old bike was non electric but at the end of its life.
She uses the Batavus more than ever, in fact most days.
We have a 4 year old who gets carted around on the bike in a small seat fixed to an additional cross bar. Two panniers and she does not have to worry too much about any additional weight.
Well, I had to try this new bike. Rode it to work and back one day. 25 mile round trip. Loved it but far too upright for my liking.
Bought myself a lightweight road bike for general riding and converted my old Rockhopper to electric, ideal with its front suspension and hydraulic brakes.
I am reasonably fit for a nr 50 year old but this converted Rockhopper is great.
I now use it on the windiest and wettest days to get to work and back. Although slower than a normal bike on a calm day, it is considerably quicker when up against a 30mph wind in ones face.
Any suggestions from my friends that I am cheating gets the reply: cheating who? A few additional words follow but cannot be repeated here.
Both bikes are charged via solar and wind power at home and have never been plugged into the mains. A small attempt to be green.
I will say that we do both have cars and the odd motorbike, so not too green but with the addition of these bikes, the cars are being used less and less.
Anyway, great forum and look forward to posting.
