Hey all, I have an old discontinued Merida Powercycle. (always a good way to start a post eh!) It stopped working recently and I have been told it is the recharger rather than the battery that needs replacing but I can't seem to source one anywhere! It is a lead battery 24v. Someone suggested that I should try convert it to a lithium battery set up. Is this even possible? I am in Ireland and there are no parts to be found not alone attempt something of the sort. Any ideas?? I would be up for trading in but nobody here seems to want to touch it. :(

24 volt lead acid chargers for e-bikes are still available, though the number of sources is reducing.

Try Tony Castles in the UK, tel 07974 723996 sales@electro-drive.co.uk fax 01672 512404

He can be a bit difficult to get hold of at times, but he has sold large numbers of the Currie-Elecrtodrive motors which use 24 volt SLA (lead-acid) batteries and should be able to get you a charger.

If not, go to Powerstream in the USA. On that site first click Battery Chargers on the left hand menu, then select the first item, Lead acid battery charger index. On that page, scroll down to half way, ignoring the first 24 volt type you see, and select the 24 volt with 3 stage charger with switching technology item, number PST-A100-24. Click on that to see the buying option at $51.60. This one is designed for your type of SLA battery, but you may need to change the plug in connector to suit the Merida connector.

If you buy that, make sure you scroll down each page during the buying stages to select a low cost shipping type rather than the expensive default UPS one. USPS Express service is low cost and takes around 12 to 14 days to the UK. Be aware you may get caught for some VAT and a VAT collection charges on top.
