Months ago rangers from High Peak (Derbyshire) were discussing trying to do exactly same.. They had had problems with blatantly illegal ebikes being used on their cycle paths. Rangers were asking why should they have to enter into arguments with ecyclists claiming their pedelec were legal but some obviously weren't. Wanted to just ban the lot.
It's inevitable, ebikes of all descriptions will be banned in places we have enjoyed them.
The idiots using what are in fact electric motor bikes, hiding behind label pedelec certainly hasn't helped.
And this forum hasn't helped either.
Want to derestrict a bike, fit a dongle or build a 1500w motor bike? Here's the place to ask. Then say "I, m using it off road".. Which in reality no longer exists in UK.
(off road is gated, fenced private land with no public access and specific permission from land owner to ride there, not some cycle path in Derbyshire or tow path)
How many ride ebikes on land recognised as actual off road? I don't know any.

try that on a horse or a 60kg stealth bomber bike not going to happen but you have to watch out for the pigs tho!

they have hired ebikes at the forest of dean for years now and never had a problem with them.
