Hey guys long time lurker first time poster. Currently riding to work on a 2nd hand cheapo bike with only 2 working gears, not much of a gear head but know how to change a tyre. Currently saving up to get myself either a mountain bike or an ebike.

You haven't said much about yourself or how/where you ride.

ebikes are great if you need one or can really take advantage of one, but you will get a lot more regular bike for the same money. ebikes are mostly very reliable, but any repairs are likely to come more complicated and more expensive than for a regular bike (especially with a higher end ebike with propriety electrics).
