Hello,

I would like to convert my bicycle (Scott Sub 45 - 13kg) to an electric one. I am looking for a light weight conversion kit with a 500w+ motor which fits on the front wheel and ideally supports disc brakes. One kit has a quoted weight of 14kg without the battery!! The georbital wheel I was looking at is 9kg. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks,
Daniel

What do you want to use it for? How heavy are you? How fast do you want to go?

I weight about 64 kilos. I will use it as a commuting bike in the city I am moving to Haifa in Israel. The whole city is build on a hill of up to 15% grade.
Basically I would like to be able compensate for the hill and go up to 25km/h

The standard that applies to legal electric bikes in Israel is EN 15194, which is the same as in Europe. That means a 250w motor and 25 km/h. I've heard of non-compliant bikes being seized when people tried to import them, so you'd best stick to the rules. At only 64kg, a 250W motor will be easily enough for you.

I would get a Bafang BBS01 mid-drive kit. They're very easy to fit, not too heavy, and can deal with hills very well.

Don't forget, you can't take lithium batteries on aeroplanes.
