Last year I bought a custom trike chopper with a Heinzmann 870-00-151-2030 motor on the front wheel.

The battery pack lasts for only for about an hour with intermittent use and I expect it needs to be replaced.

I don't know anything about the history of the bike. I would guess it is at least 10 years old. I expect the battery pack is just as old.

At present it is difficult to get clear shots of the battery but I've attached some of the labels I can see. The control box (with the key switch) is external to the battery.

This is an "art" bike and is only used a week out of the year during a single event. The environment where the bike is used is very dusty and can be quite warm.

What would be a good replacement for this battery?

Also, what maintenance should I do on the motor?

Thanks,

As it's only used about once a year, the existing NiCad battery is the best to use. Being only a 5Ah battery means that one hour running is quite good.

A new lithium battery as well as being expensive could not be left untended a year at a time, it would need to be topped up regularly to prevent premature failure. Although cheaper, the same applies with an SLA (sealed-lead-acid) battery, it would need topping up every two or three months to stay in good condition.

The only other possibility I can suggest is a loan battery for that once a year use, but connections would have to be rigged for each occasion. If you have a fair size e-bike dealer anywhere near you that might be a solution for a moderate fee.

If the motor is running ok, no maintenance is needed. The only maintenance points when trouble occurs are the internal gear lubrication or replacement and replacement motor brushes, but these motors are generally very reliable.
