I'm just putting my wheelchair trike together using a sku95 torque simulation controller from bms , I'm running it with no lcd , I'm struggling to find instructions but reading other instructions it says to short the lcd wires if you are not using one, sorry for being stupid but that does that just mean to run them to earth

No.

Short colour to colour, so wire 1 to 2 & 3 to 5.
1 & 2 are 5v+, red to Blue 3 & 5 are rx /tx comms, green to Yellow. Don't forget do it with no circuit power.
4 is Gnd so just leave it.

Yes.
Sadly they don't supply a short loop to connect in to the plug end.
Don't short to Gnd as their will be fire works esp with the 5v+.

In the pic legend of the led/lcd wire connector they just say ' by shorting 1,2 and 3,5 ' which isn't very clear better if they were to say 'short 1 to 2 & 3 to 5'.

Either short the pins or bare each pair of wires at different positions behind the connector and solder together, insulate with a piece of amalgam or electrical tape.

Finally found the diagram for this controller and it now has no instructions for not running lcd, but nothing is working , I've a feeling I broke the control box when I mistakenly connected 1234 all together and powered up

Wired all four together NOOOOO!!!!
The two pairs have to be wired separately, yes you will have most likely fried some components on the pcb.

Disadvantages of no lcd or led is you will only have assist level 1 available to you if a pas was fitted , though throttle will be full control.

The KU95 I forgot is only led compatible if you joined red and black together then you will have done serious damage.
Blue is the lock/key wire so that and red shorted (both 5v) would have worked the other two not used.

What did you exactly join ?

Did you see any magic smoke or hear a bang or any popping, does the controller smell ?

I saw no smoke and there is no smell butt I did connect power a couple of times. I connected red blue yellow and green all to each other . That said Im pretty sure i had it all connected correctly at first, I only started messing around because it wasn't working.

Mostly likely you will have damaged the controller but often they go smell/pop or magic smoke appears.
It is remotely possible if the battery is fused that the fuse might have gone and saved you, so worth a check.
Otherwise another controller.

Can you show a pic of the wiring you shorted please, because the S series controller you originally showed has 5 wire lcd connector and the later Ku has 4 wire connector. Both are made by Kunteng.
