The local Government have just approved Segways for use in all public places for commercial use, ie. tour groups.
The Segway is over 50 kg, has 2 x 1.5 kw motors, crappy brakes, a top speed of 20 kph and will be ridden by Noob's. Yet we are limited to 250w on bicycles, I can not fathom the logic in the decision.

I tried one indoors in a shopping complex in Sweden hasten to add it was in one of the shops not harassing shoppers. I have to say they are good fun but it does seem like double standards. I suppose they would justify it because of the low top speed but I agree with you. They are ideally suited to tracks on private land or indoor tracks.

This is one time that I support the UK government's stance of not allowing something, the Segway clearly has a very high potential for danger at over 12 mph in pedestrian areas, four times average walking speed. I frankly don't want them on the roads either.

I agree with Dave, they are useless and annoying. They answer a need that does not exist by use of far more energy than is necessary for travel.
