Are you still required to book a place for a folding bike when traveling by train? Or is it just luggage? its been at least 15 years since i was on a train during commuting hours..

20" diameter wheels aren't defined - "under" or "larger" only, and this bunch always cancel trains.

"Folding bikes, which can be stored securely in luggage racks without a reservation if the wheels are under 20" in diameter, or should be reserved and stored in our bike area if larger."

DIY

Get a standard 20" folder (Dahon clone or Raleigh intercity disc 8 12-13kg - they fit wider tyres) with disc brakes, add a AKM74 hub motor wheel (+1.6kg) with 15a KT controller and a 10Ah 36V Bag Battery (1.8kg from Woosh) and there you have it. I did that with my wife's Dahon clone (although doesn't have disc brakes) https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/converting-a-little-folder.47261/post-716537

I dont think you can put these folders in the same classification as a Brompton, The Brompton folds in many sections, whereas the others simple fold in half, with maybe the bars folding in also. All in all it still gives quite a large package

Look at the length of that chuffing seatpost! How is this possible? Also, you should re-spray it in black.

I don't think you can put these hub motored Bromptons in the same hill devouring class as 720W mid-drive Dahons.

Yeah i tried to arrange a simple 2-3leg train journey with my bike (and back a few days later) last year.. Impossible. Not the bike friendly service i remember when inconvenienced by numerous bikes in the carriage ;)

Cancellations. Every time, and more than once attempting the same leg of the journey. With increased prices!

My rucksack is large enough for my battery and jawguarded helmet, and my bike folded into this bag is luggage:

A Helios like mine switching to stealth mode:

True, my wife's folds in the middle, the handlebar folds down and the seat post drops

Mind you that Brompton with 20" wheels isn't in the same league as the smaller wheeled ones

Shiny unpainted helps visibility at night in the glare of car headlights. My unpainted and long aluminium seatpost is fluted within for strength, recently replaced with a longer one in black with cheapo spring suspension actionality functioness.

What are it's folded dimensions anyway? Website doesn't say. 3.91kg lighter than mine, but for less than a third of the price, my mid-drive Dahon has twice the battery capacity, larger appetite for hills, and is easier and cheaper to repair. Almost effortless hill climbing ability is more relevant for commuters than bouncing about offroad. The legal 720W BBS01B cadence sensing motor makes hill climbs a breeze.

Mind you, kit conversions like mine will soon be illegalised by Brompton and it's mates... and dropping circa £3k on impossible to repair at home bikes with inferior hill devouring characteristics will become the norm.

So as a comparison, what are the folded dimensions of your Dahon ?
Originally:

W32cm H66cm L84cm

My folding mid-drive Dahon has brighter and more numerous ebike battery powered lights and battery powered frickin laser beams, some are on lollipops - haven't measured, but I don't think there's much difference in folded dimensions post-conversion, everything I've added which wasn't part of the kit swivels in and/or folds.

Know the feeling.

At £3,500 its about £500 more than a standard electric Brompton.
There's bound to be a titanium version, I can't wait to see the eBrompoTit™ price tag.

I meant he should re-spray the frame black!
