Interesting Dave and good to read you're having fun. As you get more active have you thought about using the pedelec only for one motor and the throttle for the other? You wouldn't have the fun of two throttles though
Well, I tend to ride with the Powertrek pedelec and bring in the Alien on throttle and to be honest although I do use both throttles on hills sometimes I really only need the Alien as back up as two throttles are more than powerful enough. There are a couple of short steep hills near me where I used to need 1st gear and have to go for it and when I`m a bit further down the road fitness wise I`m gonna see how the two throttles handle them.
There`s definitely a case for two hubs, as Flecc pointed out I could carry just a small battery for the alien as the extra hill climber and that would keep the weight down but the nice thing about the set up is that I always have loads in reserve in the alien battery which will generally get me home if need be and because I`m using the alien on throttle as extra hill help then the Powertrek battery goes a bit further.
I wonder what the actual range would be? certainly I can run a battery right down now if I wanted to.
Thinking about range, lets say that each battery would give me 25miles of mixed hills, flat, pedelec and a bit of throttle. If using the Alien for a touch of assistance on hills(which would mean getting up them faster and not draining the powertrek battery as much) then could there be a case for obtaining more than 50 miles from the two of them? Thinking about it, what would probably happen is that instead of one battery running out at 25 miles and then using the other one for the next 25 miles you would probably find that they might well both go on for 50miles and then both run down?
Of course I realise that the set up must be illegal( it is isn`t it?)
