Hi

I"am thinking very hard about buying the Bosch Nyon for mapping i just wanted to know what is it like now
after the big update has anyone tried out the mapping to see if it works correctly and well.

I am also keen in changing the motor setting around to save power and also to get some more miles out
of my bosch system.

I would be grateful for your information to make up my mind in buying the bosch nyon system

Thank you very much for your help

I find mine to leave much to be desired. A lot of my local roads aren't on it, the track through the Forrestry Commission woodland isn't there.

I think you would be better sticking to the Intuvia and getting a Mio or Garmin unit.

Mine's taken me into two different gardens whilst using the "mtb" navigation...I thought there was something amiss when I saw the swings and slide, closely followed by "Can I help you?"...my answer of "Sorry my satnav sent me this way" probably sounded like a bulls**t excuse too! I won't go into the near vertical drop it wanted me to go down either lol

I have been using the Ebike Connect software via browser and every route that i have planned for my area it has found and it has no problems at all.

I will admit i have been putting in the postcode to the destination that it says it cannot be found and when you
press route again it finds it with the street name and postcode.

My bike is my car and for getting around places at the moment i am using my phone but most the time my battery on my iPhone is flat time i have got to my destination and i always need to charge it all the time that why i was thinking of the nyon save messing with phones for maps.

When you have clicked the address it will route it to where you want to go i have had no problem finding any address and it given me 3 routes every time.

I'm not sure what a Bosch Nyon system is, but from what I've read here, it sounds like a SatNav for bike? If that is what you want, I have a Garmin EDGE 1000 and it's fantastic. You can load Open Street Maps (OSM) onto it, free of charge. These are also excellent and very up to date. Garmin does a good job updating its own mapping, but I think OSM is better.

The EDGE has some nice features and worth a look. DC Rainmaker (Google his site) who is the flecc of all things GPS does some really good independent tests of all this kind of equipment.

Bosch make many things, none of which are market leaders. I think it's best to purchase this sort of thing from a company which specialises in GPS and navigation.

Orux maps on a Nexus 7. It isn't mounted on the handlebars it is in the pannier and pulled out whenever I come to one of those junctions on the cycle path that I am not to sure of. Happened once since June in San Sebastian.

I use the Bosch Intuvia system (the one before the Nyon) and that already is a bit too smart for my liking. Once I ran the battery down completely, and the system responded by locking me out until all major components (head unit, drive unit and battery) had received a software update.

If mapping is added to this system, then it's another complexity to go wrong, and it can't be replaced. Adding a handlebar-mounted device (mobile phone, dedicated GPS) seems to be much more sensible - if it goes wrong, it can be replaced at a much lower cost.

I thought at first it was a system that came with a Bosch-equipped bike (and you probably can get bikes with Nyon fitted) but it turns out you can get it as an Intuvia upgrade as well.

We are now 3 years on from the O/P's question and my response is that the mapping system on the NYON unit is a total waste of time and money. The Maps are very poor. More relevant is the mapping options which give mtb routing, scenic routing and fast routing. The worrying thing is that all 3 options are taking me down routes which are:
a/. Private.
b/. Impassable
c/. Dead ends.
I have many more gripes about the unit, but want to encourage anyone who is interested in a Nyon unit to think twice, or do a lot of research and check out the unit in area's you are not familiar with.

I chose to buy the COBI bike unit for my haibike instead. I’ve had it for about 3 months and I’m very pleased with it so far. The Satnav seems pretty good though I don’t use it often. It does integrate with Komoot for mapping as well as Strava for fitness.

I like the Nyon for recording my routes. But I think I'll go for a Garmin Edge next time
