What happens when you cant get a replacement battery ?

I`m slightly concerned as to what I will do if I cant get a replacement battery (36v 10Ah) Lithium Polymer for my Alien kit in a few years time.

Are there battery companies out there that would simply supply me with a suitable battery with a built in management system ? (Ping batteries keep getting mentioned on the forum).

Probably something I shouldn`t be too concerned about but companies do cease trading or change their products. I love my Alien conversion but would hate to think I maybe stuck without a battery in a few years time when mine is worn out.

as most alien batteries are mounted on the rear rack, replacement batteries would not be a problem,most bikes the battery fits in to the frame and requires an exact size and shape,you will not have any of these worries.

In the kit you are talking about and most other setups the battery is simply connected with 2 wires +ve & -ve. Any battery with the correct voltage and power (amps it can supply) will work. Your only problem is mounting and there will almost certainly come a time where you won't be able to find a battery that will mount in the same space and lock into the carrier with the key. At this point you would need to improvise and maybe just stick the replacement battery in a rackpack/trunk bag on the rear carrier.

Alternatively if you are more confident you could dismantle the Alien battery and fit new cells and management unit in the same space and wire it up to the existing charging wires and output wiring extremely easily, but the dimensions of the replacement cells may not fit exactly inside the case and you might have to compromise with smaller cells and get less amp hours.

Also,just for info GoldenMotor (google em) are selling a LiFEPO4 based battery that at first glance appears to share the same case & rack as the Alien one. No guarantees they'll be around either, but they are a manufacturer.

That's a very long and involved question!! Ask again when your battery needs replacing...

I'm hoping for a light weight Lifepo4 type battery that you can fit in a bottle, lasts 10,000 charges, recharges in an hour and does 40 miles on a full charge - winter or summer. Fat chance though.
