Finding my (electric) wheels

Hi guys,
After hiring an ebike for 3 days in lanzarote a few weeks ago I'm itching to get on the ebike bandwagon, but not sure which road to take.
I'm on the verge of buying a 2018 haibike 4.0 hardseven, but I cannot make my mind up whether it's the best bike in it's price range to get. Any better choices?
I already have a 2017 cube acid which I'd love to convert but I don't want the possible pain that comes with diy install, i'm no mechanic.
I'm being swayed towards the bosch performance motor because it can be de-restricted. I want to have fun not just plod.
Thanks.

Dean,
Most ebikes can be derestricted including Yamaha. This link gives some information:

Look here for lots more:

I am not derestricting mine because it is fast enough for me already.
I can tell you that Haibikes are seriously good quality (as are Cubes etc).

Derestriction often means the motor itself will do 300w or 17mph, but has been limted to 250w or 15mph. It will mean less miles per charge, but i'm sure you would accept that.

I don't think he's imagining only 17 mph if he wants to get a CX for the purpose of derestricting it!

Assuming the price range is around £1600-£1800 then yes, the haibike is a nice bike and you're unlikely to find a cheaper CX motor on a good frame.

As for desrestriction, if it's for commuter use on the road then that is relatively justifiable IMHO. Traffic flow speed is often closer to 25mph than 15mph and being too slow is dangerous.

Of course, delimiting will invalidate your warrranty, put strain on your motor and bike generally, invalidate your insurance if your insurance company finds out and potentially put you in the **** if you do happen to hit someone and injure them. Also you will kill your range.

But if you are prepared to accept the above and keep it to road use then I find it hard to get excited about that as you are still just about the least dangerous thing on the road.

Off road more than 15 mph is too fast and dangerous to other off-road users. The formula for impact damage is 50% of mass x the square of your velocity, as I recall from school. So doubling the speed quadruples the damage if you hit anything. And there are only soft things - people, dogs, other cyclists to hit on trails.

It also potentially jeopardises the entire law-abiding e bike community if 'speed is fun' tossers with effectively 30mph electric mopeds bomb around on cyclist only trails. No better than those wankers on illegal quad bikes IMHO.
