I'm converting a hybrid into an e-bike.
I'm looking at Bafang's mid drives BBS02B and BBSHD

- 1000w BBSHD is too much power for my needs but I can't see where to get one at 500w or 750w... do they exist?
- BBS02B sounds like it has some reliability problems after a while. Is this common for average use?

How many teeth?
- current bike has 36 on the chain ring

Batteries...
any recommends on downtube battery packs and where to get them?

Thanks

BBS models/power rating.
BBS01 36V 250/350 or 500w .
BBS01ETM 36v 250w uprated internals and 25a controller.
BBS02 48V 500 or 750w.
BBSHD or some call it the 03 model 1000w.
Plenty of sellers about.

On my third controller. Original one had the crappy MOSFET problem and blew fairly quickly into the unit's life. Second one with improved MOSFETs blew, but lasted alot longer. Now on third and touching wood. Not that wood, you perves

Apart from that, no other major issues!

I'm running a Lekkie Bling Ring 42T, but really only to solve a chain alignment issue.

Are you dead set on a Bafang? If not there's also the Tongsheng TSDZ2 available for a mid-drive conversion.

It's a very different proposition to the Bafang as it uses torque sensing rather than cadence sensing but it might be what you're after...

Just because the BBSHD has 1000 watts doesn't mean you have to use them all.
I use an Eggrider display and can set the maximum wattage to any value I want.
Its currently set to 250 watts in road mode and 1560 watts in offroad mode.
Not legal but then neither is the BBS02.
Eggrider manual is here.

The best bang for buck if you do not want legal is the bbs02 750watt,very good power to weight ratio and 120nm with less battery current required and can be found at a good price
If legal only one option the bbs01 250watt

What about the 25 amp 36v 250w version?

The 25 amp 36v 250watt etm from em3ev which is really a bbs02 500watt the 90nm version i had on my voodoo , is current hungry and had a huge toll on the battery [17.5ah ga cells from jimmy] Costs more than the 750w model . Also only had a 250watt sticker no engraved markings .The bbs01 version does not appear to be easily available now [in stock]

GA cells are a poor choice for a higher current draw. The ES thread on life cycle ageing/testing put it well down the pecking order on to use.
