Wringing mileage out of a Bosch battery

With my 90 mile Berwick ride in mind I've been seeing how far I can get on eco assist setting on my Rose/Bosch bike.

The second bar on the indicator went out today at 38 miles.

The indicator has five bars and is fairly linear.

Even ignoring the last bar, I reckon a range of 70+ miles is possible.

That's cycling at a steady pace in relatively calm conditions over not particularly hilly terrain.

Cycling in eco is bordering on the agreeable as I'm content to tootle along, changing down to spin up hills.

Speaking of changing, my Alfine 11 hub shifts much more cleanly on eco, it's even possible to do so while still pedalling.

Two batteries should see me alright for Berwick.

70+ sounds good Rob how fast are you going using eco ?
I can get 55 miles out of my Woosh 15ah battery combined with Big Bear BPM kit at 20a on my 700c hybrid, mostly flatish with a few uphill and down hill sections this tootling along between 17 and 21 mph on the flat on level 2 of 5 .

If I were you, Rob, I'd run it right down over two or three rides to see how far it'll go on each segment/light. I've never seen a linear one yet. Also, as the battery goes down, you get less and less power.

About 10-12mph, pretty much my usual pace although it was too hot today for flying about.

I've no hope getting this type of range, insufficient flat bits.

I went out on my Birdy this afternoon, first time ever I got off and walked.

Now looking for a powered folder equal to the Birdy.

i have had 2 runs of 50+ miles on my e mate city with a 15.5ah battery.
The first was on level 3 (of 5 ) all day and the second was 54 miles
on a mixture of 2 and 3. all in hilly terrain and when I got back the battery
was reading 3 bars stationary and 2 while cycling. (of 6)
I reckon on level 2 on flatish terrain i could get close to 70 miles and i am
a 100kg

When I say the Bosch indicator is fairly linear I am basing that on running the battery flat many times over the last three years.

The last bar tends not to last as long, which is why I am ignoring it for the purpose of the calculation.

And you ride too fast.

When I'm bowling along in eco at 8/9mph the motor is cutting in and out, so I'm doing brief sections unpowered.

Being Bosch, it's still very smooth although the on/off noise of the motor takes a bit of getting used to.

Above about 10mph the motor will run all the time.

I did 28 miles yesterday on the Rose from Consett in County Durham to Stanhope and back.

Eco all the way, apart from the steep climb at Crawleyside, which I thrashed up on turbo.

It's quite a pull, but there was no detectable heat from the motor at the top.

Still three bars left on the battery indicator when I returned.

I did the same ride not long after I bought the bike.

It was more of a struggle up Crawleyside and, from memory, the battery was close to empty at the end of the ride.

You said Berwick on your original post, are you doing the C to C and then heading North to Berwick or just checking your range with day runs prior to the Berwick trip?
