London to Brighton bike ride: 17 June

The British Heart Foundation are once again asking the public to “saddle up to save a life” on 17 June 2018.

Now in its 43rd year, the charity is hoping over 15,000 cyclists will help fund BHF’s heart research by cycling the 54 mile from Clapham Common to Brighton’s seafront.

BHF’s Elizabeth Tack said: “We urgently need the people to help us stop heart disease in its tracks and support us in our search for more lifesaving breakthroughs. By taking on this exciting challenge, every mile you cycle will help bring us closer to beating heart disease for good. The London to Brighton Bike Ride is not a race but it is a fantastic way to support the nation’s heart charity and help transform millions of lives across the UK.”

The charity hopes this year’s ride will contribute around £3m to their research.

They also add that electric bikes taking part must conform to the following criteria:
• The e-bike must be fitted with pedals that are capable of propelling it
• The electric motor must not exceed 250 watts
• The electrical assistance must cut out when the e-bike reaches 15.5mph
