  1. Just to say the bms arrived and is now fitted and works a dream! I have discharged and recharged and the balancing is better than I expected, well with in 0.2v of each other, most 0.1v The switch wire was not needed so I just joined the two ends together. Thanks for all your advice and patience.
  2. Thanks for your help. I have ordered a 13s Be Much Safer BMS with switch. Even though my silverfish battery has a key to lock and power the bike, I’m guessing that I may not need the wire from the bms. I will just need to join the ends together to bridge it? (It looks a small enough wire not to be sending too much current, though I will measure it first with a multi meter.) Thank again.
  3. Sorry but your more confident than me. I only have about an inch of ribbon to get to. I cant get the cell pack out as its stuck in there with thick foam strips and silicon. Cutting live wires with sissors might cause more probs, and i'm sure your not suggesting that. I did find a useful youtube video which may help keeping a note of the positive and negative sides of the ribbon.
  4. Thanks I think I will go with this one without switch but with balancing. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004820133678.html To tide me over I ordered a daly from Amazon , https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D114YHVR?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title I went to fit it this morning and as I was checking I noticed the polarity for the ribbon connection is reversed so can’t use it. I think the BeMuchSafer shows the correct way round. Is there a ribbon reversal adapter, and if so what’s the proper name? I have had a search but I only get results for typewriters…..
  5. Sorry I thought maybe ‘with switch’ (third one along,) was for turning balance function on or off. So maybe this one? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004820133678.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller.2.7048LZHJLZHJ4B&gps-id=pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller&scm=1007.40050.354490.0&scm_id=1007.40050.354490.0&scm-url=1007.40050.354490.0&pvid=28f75526-1e77-47bb-9d70-f16e505677e0&_t=gps-id:pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller,scm-url:1007.40050.354490.0,pvid:28f75526-1e77-47bb-9d70-f16e505677e0,tpp_buckets:668%232846%238110%231995&pdp_npi=4%40dis%21GBP%2118.89%2118.89%21%21%2123.81%2123.81%21%40211b628117296754071947820e1c33%2112000030612406063%21rec%21UK%212532546085%21XZ&utparam-url=scene%3ApcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller%7Cquery_from%3A 2nd one ‘Color: 13S35A with SW’. Ignorance showing, what will the switch do?
  6. I’ve also seen this that is 2 wire ‘common port’. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006802499736.html?spm=a2g0o.detail.pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller.2.6f03IMdsIMdsUv&gps-id=pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller&scm=1007.40050.354490.0&scm_id=1007.40050.354490.0&scm-url=1007.40050.354490.0&pvid=ba6ae6f7-54b8-481d-88fc-dd911bcfd912&_t=gps-id:pcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller,scm-url:1007.40050.354490.0,pvid:ba6ae6f7-54b8-481d-88fc-dd911bcfd912,tpp_buckets:668%232846%238110%231995&pdp_npi=4%40dis%21GBP%2110.59%2110.59%21%21%2113.35%2113.35%21%402103854617296704843515028e1d6c%2112000038353829177%21rec%21UK%212532546085%21XZ&utparam-url=scene%3ApcDetailTopMoreOtherSeller%7Cquery_from%3A Sorry about needing to ask, but is it better to use a 3 wire version? I’m not understanding the need of a 3 wire if, as suggested I can ‘wire the charge negative to the P’?
  7. Thanks I’ve looked at the BeMuchSafer 13S 35A 30A 48V Battery BMS, just to clarify, does the ‘switch’ operate the balance function? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004820133678.html?gps-id=platformRecommendH5ForSpider&pvid=3b00895f-4162-4e76-99f0-381301134cd2&_t=gps-id:platformRecommendH5ForSpider,pvid:3b00895f-4162-4e76-99f0-381301134cd2,tpp_buckets:668%232846%238107%231934 It’s almost £19 but it maybe more reliable? Thanks again.
  8. As regards the Ali listing, we searched for a long time trying to sort what did not sound right, and only chose this one because of the communications that we had. There are many multiple listings on Ali that look similar, and if there are any genuine e-bike batteries on there they are buried in fakes. To make matters worse, Ali refused to help. Once you got through the chatbot I was told that ‘they do not do monetary refunds if the battery is confirmed to be ‘not as described’. The seller only offered partial refunds, and blamed his supplier. We think, but can’t prove that PayPal only changed their tune because we informed them that we had started a case with Action Fraud and the UKICC, we can’t say for definite, but it all happened at the same time. Anyway I promised myself I would not rant, just put it down to experience, it was just an anxious couple of months all in all. After all ‘it’s only money!!!’
  9. Thanks, just tried and at the moment the silverfish style 48v 20ah is out of stock but looks promising. I’ve signed up and will keep trying, Thanks again.
  10. Ok, I know what you mean, I’ll look into doing that instead. Thanks for all your help.
  11. Thanks, that sounds like what I am looking for, maybe at least 20ah. Just had a Quick Look, do you think the packs inside would be interchangeable with my silverfish style so I could swap them over? As long as they send me the right one that is…….
  12. Thank for your reply. By what you’ve said the Daly’s sounds that they could be untrustworthy and a bit problematic. Almost sounds like the balancing feature didn’t stop or something. I thought I’d try a more expensive type as the cheaper ones seem to be nondescript, and I do like the balancing feature. Could you suggest another brand as I really don’t want to lose a battery?
  13. I have noticed that the price do change a lot as well. I thought we would give it a try as I can’t seem to get any locally. Do you mind saying where you managed to find a good one? We use them so much around here I don’t mind paying a bit more. Maybe even replacing the pack inside? Building your own seems dangerous unless you know how to do it properly. YouTube makes it look so easy, but it’s not something I would feel safe enough by myself. Thanks for any help you can give.
  14. No problem I have changed as suggested. I actually bought two of these, https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007221470572.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.28.a1771802RQBepe We live in north wales in Snowdonia very hilly and mountainous. So to go out for the day with a 10-15ah doesn‘t last. We didn’t go with the cheapest or the most expensive, but as they were offering Samsung cells we thought for the price it would be ok. We even messaged them first and they reassured us. Also we thought with the way li-ons deteriorate over a few years we will still be ok in 4 or 5 years. Plus there wasn’t much difference in price, which in hindsight should have been a warning. Now we don’t know where to source from as we are worried it could happen again.
  15. Just to clarify... have you bought a battery on Aliexpress from PSW? I have never seen 48V 30Ah battery in their offer. No sorry not PSW, I regret leaving the comment as it was off topic. Just Ignore me…..
