Thoughts on Carrera Crossfire-E
I got mine in August and have used a lot to commute on, it started cutting out within the first couple of days of owning it and has been back 3 times for "repairs". I persevered because I got it cheap on Cyclescheme and couldn't afford to upgrade. I am definitely past the "refund status" window now, they are very reluctant to swap and "will always be able to fix it" but I was informed the warranty is different for the bike (1 year) vs the the motor/battery (2 years). After a lot of consideration, I've decided to live with it and perhaps trade-in or sell on in 2 years and take out another Cyclescheme voucher. However bearing in mind the mechanical issues people are reporting, and warranty, I might actually do that next year depending on how mine fairs.

Thoughts on Carrera Crossfire-E
Just an update, my bike cut out again after Cycle Republic replaced the display mount, and I complained and got them to check it out at the 6 week service 2 days ago. They replace the actual display unit this time... Cut out 4 times in a row this morning on my first commute! The battery button trick didn't work I had to pull over and do a full battery removal to reset it. Note, just before it cuts out the display briefly shows empty battery. I have complained again today, and they are going to look at it again! Each time I suggest to them that I might want to swap or upgrade to a more reliable bike, they are reluctant and assert their ability to keep fixing it. When it goes back it will be my 3rd visit to the workshop to have the cutout looked at in just over 6 weeks. Despite really enjoying the Crossfire-E when it works, the unreliability is annoying me now. Not sure what to do next.

If you've just got it ,the odometer and trip may well read the same, foxed me at first, and the "i" and "-" only resets when you've selected the trip?

Thoughts on Carrera Crossfire-E
Really helpful to hear your experience 2500 miles on, thanks. I commute 32 miles a day but only twice a week so I could expect to hit 2500 miles and possibly new battery territory in a little over 1 year, not 2 years as expected. Battery life is great at the moment, hitting nearly 60 miles in Eco mode, 40 miles in Tour/Climb, even with my weight, which is another point... I am really overweight at over 17st (110KG) and 6ft, and so I am concerned about what Halfords are saying to you about max load! The max rider weight is quoted as 120KG (19st) and I checked that before buying, plus I also accounted for my laptop on the luggage rack (2-3Kg)... It looks like might be taking a trip down the old broken spoke corral too. I have been dealing with Cycle Republic and although they have been pretty good so far, replacing my display and fixing my cutout (for now). Like most shops they're going to fix the bare minimum and stick to the letter of the warranty. So with the spokes, potentially £130 for a wheel rebuild, and £400 for a battery, that's basically close to the difference to upgrade to a Bosch powered Crossfuse. BUT! Wouldn't it just have the same problems with battery lifespan? In fact, these battery issues, and 2 year lifespan, aren't they more or less the same with ALL e-bikes including the more expensive Bosch powered models? Maybe you get another 6 months then you'd be facing the a new battery bill? Although, the wheel and spokes might be more robust without the hub motor and you might also have a more reliable commute without cut-outs. Or is it better to get a Crossfire on the Cyclescheme for £600 every 2 years, with new motor, battery and everything? Maybe less if you can trade-in your old one like some shops offer. Also I really like the sidestand, I'd really miss it if I went to a Crossfuse You expect the battery life to drop off after a year or so as it does with phones. I don't think you've done anything wrong BTW, Halfords are just giving you some BS about the usage I am sure. If my battery was getting to the same state as yours I'd be taking my charger and charging it up at work. That said, less range, makes it less useful, I took mine on a 24 mile trail (light) ride over the weekend, turned the power off in a few places - Damn! That's one heavy bike to ride, it would not be fun if the battery left you stranded

Exactly that! Crossfire costing me around £600 and a Crossfuse would have been double the price. If I'd had more money I might have gone to one of the independents or gone for a more upmarket brand like Cube or Giant instead anyway. Also, I think the offer might have finished and its back up to £1250!

Hi, I also had to adjust my gears which were never right, and one of the spoke guard fasteners has snapped making an alarming sound from the rear wheel. Worth checking to see if yours has done the same thing ? I cable tied mine and temporarily fixed it so I can keep commuting, but I am going to take it back to get everything adjusted and get that replaced properly. I would definitely suggest you take yours back too. As an update to the infamous cutout problem Cycle Revolution replaced my display bracket and it has solved it for now, the cut outs became more frequent before they fixed it. I suspect that won't be the end of the problem, my theory is that its over-sensitive to any slight loose connection, which can likely occur anywhere in the system at any time. I do also occasionally get a pedal through treacle type issue, but I can't be sure if that's just my imagination, suddenly having to put effort in. It will easily get to 25-30mph downhill and is easier to pedal then and I can get it up to over 20 on the flat myself...sometimes...then sometimes I can't get it above 16 as when the motor cuts out its ridiculously hard to pedal. I have been able to seemingly "free it off" sometimes by getting out of the saddle and really going for it. I got mine on Cyclescheme in the sale for £1000 which is great value, and I couldn't justify the extra £600 for a Crossfuse. I enjoy riding it despite the issues, but I wonder if it half my journeys will be trips back to the shop...

Hello everyone
Thanks for the welcoming and helpful responses everyone, I took my Crossfire-E back to Cycle Republic last week and I mentioned these issues were well known, which of course, they didn't agree with. They were however, friendly and helpful and seemed confident that replacing the display bracket would help. No cuts outs in the +50 miles since the fix but I know there's people on here who've had all sorts replaced to no avail. My gut says that this will never be completely reliable, but I really enjoy riding it so I want to give it another chance.

Hello everyone
Thanks Nealh Funny you should say that... I've had it less than a week and had 2 cut outs already and one today on only my 2nd commute. I saw the mixed reviews but just hoped it had been fixed by now on newer models. Its going back to Cycle Revolution next week for inspection/fixing but having read some posts on here, I think you're right and this is an inherent flaw that may never be fixed. I am not sure where I stand on a refund using Cyclescheme but I am going to find out. Such a shame, its really nice to ride and great value for £1000...( Buy cheap, buy twice )

Thoughts on Carrera Crossfire-E
Picked my crossfire-e up last Friday from Cycle Revolution, covered about 100 miles, and I am really pleased with it, except... 2 cut-outs already! (shutdowns, no error code or anything) One with the first 5 minutes of a journey through a town, the 2nd one 40mins/10 miles in. In both cases not when it was under the most load i.e. going uphill etc, but definitely following a bumpy section where the bike had been jolted. The head unit would not power back up but after pressing the battery button it would, which I think other people have reported. Battery was well over half full in both cases. So far, if I had to guess, I would say some kind of controller / battery connection loss which needs a reset. I am fairly savvy with electronics but can't see the point in messing with it while its under warranty. Cycle Revolution are going to inspect and check next week and said its all covered under warranty, but loose connections and thermal cutout were suggested as possible causes. I will report back here with any findings. Probably nothing, but they did try to push me towards the Crossfuse, probably because it was more money but part of me wonders if they knew about the problems and were trying to ward me off. P.S. As if to inspire more confidence a v-shaped bit of plastic flew off on my first commute, it just clips on but I can find out where it goes!

Hello everyone
Hello everyone, I have just changed from a Carrera Vanquish (disc) road bike to a Carrera Crossfire-E for my 17 mile commute (each way). I have used a Cycle To Work scheme (Cyclescheme) to fund it and wanted to stay in the £1000 limit which didn't leave many options. I am mid forties and properly overweight (6ft,18st) and got back into cycling about 5 years ago to improve my health and fitness. Last year I managed to do up to 100 miles per week between commutes and leisure riding, and lost nearly a stone. I also have Crohns disease and for some reason found cycling has really helped. Most of my journeys have at least one pub on the way, which might also defeat the purpose but kept me interested So much so, I actually sold my fantastic Suzuki Bandit 1250 GT through lack of use! However, between family, work and weather I haven't done half as much cycling this year which led me towards the e-bike purchase to get back into the habit. Every bit of research I have done on e-bikes over the last few months always ends up leading me here! So I am glad to finally join properly.
