Wisper 905 battery replacement(behind seat post model)
I have an old(2008ish) 905SE which has given me great service over the years. It has been stood for a while and I'm passing it onto a friend as a intro to ebikes but the range is now quite poor(understandably). What are my options for replacement. I had a quick look on the Wisper site but couldn't see them.

E-bikes are advancing fast - get the newest model of the best bike you can afford
I think the biggest advancement has been the mainstream companies including ebikes in their range. Where once we where limited to fitting kits or buying online from smaller companies now you can find ebikes in most bike shops. I always received great service from the smaller companies but it is nice to look/try before you buy and to know there is a big company in the background. Mountian biking in particular seems to have embraced the Ebike and the future looks interesting with lightweight bikes with small batteries that just give you a wee helping hand to monster full suspension bikes with high torque motors, 750wh batteries and huge range. Its a great time to be riding an Ebike

Merida/Shimano Customer Service Issues
To be fair to my dealer he offered me a charger off a "shop" bike but I had chargers from my other bikes and bless him he's only a small shop if I had taken his charger that means he couldnt sell the bike until all this is sorted. It just seems an odd way of doing business. If a wiper motor packs up on my car Subaru fix it they don't tell me to contact Bosch

Merida/Shimano Customer Service Issues
I have 3 Merida Ebikes all with Shimano motors and batteries. They are absolutely fantastic, well built, great performance and have really benefited my cycling. I had cause recently to test the warranty on what I thought was a fairly simple matter and came away disappointed. One of the chargers packed up, just stopped working, I changed the plug fuse but still nothing. Being still within warranty I popped it back to the shop who contacted Merida. Merida washed their hands of the issue and said we need to contact Shimano who cover the warranty. A company called Madison deal with all UK Shimano products. Madison wouldnt take the dealers word that the charger was not working and send a courier to collect. A week later the charger was still at the shop awaiting collection. The dealer phoned regularly to be told its in the system. A month later they issued him a credit note instead of a replacement charger. Finally after 6 weeks I have my replacement charger. As it happens I had the chargers from the other bikes but if I was a solo ebike owner as many folk are my bike would of been useless for 6 weeks. My dealer has been first rate but I'm disappointed with Merida, Ive bought 6 Merida bikes in the last 5 years but my next ebike will not be a Merida or have a Shimano motor in it

Here's another one.......
Looks interesting. I have bikes with both the e6000 and e8000 and both have so far proved very good

Will type approved speed pedelecs wake the police up
I'd replace "most" with "some" The vast majority of Ebike users keep it standard and don't join ebike forums. The Police seem pretty stretched nowadays and I suspect Ebikes are fairly low down their list of priorities. I think you'd have to be involved in an RTA or be flying round on the pavement at daft speeds before you'd get a tug. Cruising past a Policeman at 20mph instead of 15mph is unlikely to raise an eyebrow Four Lanes! There's a name from the past I'm now in Scotland but grew up in Pool just down the road

Help! Is there a market for the Wisper Wayfarer?
Just a wee comment. If you're aiming for the larger rider would the e8000 motor be a better option as I believe it has more torque lower down ie should be quicker off the mark for the larger ebiker

Stratospheric prices
I don't think ebikes are any more expensive than regular bikes. £5k gets you a fairly decent TT bike or full suspension mtb but far from top of the range. Go to any cycle/triathlon club and you'll find plenty of people who have spent lots more. There is a market out there for sure

New Merida with a few mods
Decided I need a road bike to go with my EMTB. I've had good service from Merida and from Kirkcowan Cycles where I've bought most of my bikes over the last 10 years so they always get first option on anything I need cycle related. I wanted a flat barred racer style bike and Shimano e8010 battery so I could share it with my MTB. Merida do a range of commuter bikes with the 6000 steps motor but with the 8010 battery that with a few mods would fit the bill. We removed the rack, guards, lights, lock. Swapped out the suspension forks, bars, tyres and added my worn in Brooks saddle which in total shaved off just under 5kg. Ok not a lot in the ebike world but enough to make it feel lighter and pick up/carry speed a little better. I'm impressed with the range, I'm 105kg, below knee amputee on one side, average elevation is approx 9m per km, average speed approx 23kmh. Eco on the flat, normal and the climbs. 62 km with 33% battery remaining.

The Last Wisper Sneak Preview of the year. 12kg Road Bike
I don't think the price is an issue the target market are used to spending this sort of money on a bike. The issue is not the bike but the UK speed restriction. I train a group of "average" triathletes who on group rides are averaging over 20 mph. In this company a 12kg road bike is really heavy so while you'll get a boost on the hills for the rest of the time above 15.5 mph you're pedaling a relatively heavy 12kg while the people around you are on sub 9kg bikes. Just to be clear I'm not running the bike down at all, its a great bit of kit but IMO the law makes it too slow for its target market
