  1. Every single thread on here ends up with SanEagle coming along and saying "you dont wanna do it like that, you wanna do it like this" regarding hub motors v mid drives. Whenever I see a new topic posted it makes me cringe because I know exactly how its going to go.....
  2. My interpretation of that is that a converted bike that complies with the 250W limit is ok. Not sure I'd fancy having a ruined day out by having to argue it with the guard though. Shame, I've had some fun days out cycling 50 miles or so and getting the train back.
  3. So you should know what you’re talking about… but pretty telling that my first conversion/build is incomparably better than your 50th! Seeing as you should know what you’re talking about, I assume it’s a combination of laziness and arrogance that leads you to the ‘don’t do it like that, do it like this BECAUSE I SAY SO!’ attitude… makes sense with being a teacher to be honest as you just expect people to take what you say as gospel… 50,000 posts….. what a hero… assuming 1 minute per post that’s a month of your life… all for the good of the people…. Or is it just to inflate your ego? Why don’t you stop being the big fish in the small pond and go play on Endless Sphere… oh because you’ll be ridiculed… Yes, I’ll disappear into silence as you wish but don’t be surprised if I pop up again to stick up for someone if you start bullying them again…
  4. Eh up, here’s the first of the sycophants… Why are they the experts? Who says they’re experts? Where are their qualifications or expertise? If you search through the thousands of worthless posts and find pictures of their own bikes they’re bodged together pieces of crap. They have to answer every question with ‘don’t do it like that, do it like I did… BECAUSE I SAY SO’. No explanation or expertise… and they can’t accept they’re wrong… they feel threatened when someone actually knows what they’re talking about. This voltsnamps chap clearly has achieved what he says he has with his throttle… read his original post, the level of descriptiveness etc. He is not going to have made that up!! Then people basically call him a liar… no wonder he’s angry… and really it’s because those people would like to do what he has done but haven’t been able to work it out for themselves. Rather than ask him nicely how he did it, they ridicule him… You’re making yourself look like an idiot now! The simulations and real life experience show that hundreds of watts are being wasted as heat when braking down hills. If you can put those watts back into the battery, what’s not to like. Tell me what the ‘upper hand in the physics department’ says about that?? Typical playground bullying… when someone steps in to defend the kid being bullied, the bullies immediately turn on him !!
  5. I’m not gonna get drawn in to your bullying again… but guy pops up and says he’s done something and then is attacked by a bunch of people who haven’t… Whether he has or hasn’t… who cares?? It’s not worth being nasty about. Not that I’m even remotely interested, as I don’t have a throttle on mine, but there’s no reason this couldn’t be achieved… the sensors/hardware is all there, the rest is just software. If there’s open source software available anyone could take that and modify it to do what they want, build it and flash it and done. I think I’m about done with this forum too…
  6. Errrrr no. Evidence? This is not a court... ....and you don't tell me what to do! I will read peoples posts and make up my own mind if I believe them to be credible or not. That applies to everyone! I'm minded to believe Voltsnamps has acheived what he says he has... https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/pages/pedelecs-forum-rules/
  7. Everytime someone new pops up on this forum, the old hands berate them and arrogantly dismiss their opinions/findings. It happened to me, and I've seen it happen to a handful of other people in the same time. Saddening....
  8. ‘Fixie’ rear wheel with belt drive to mid-drive that is discreetly integrated into the frame. Mid drive of about 750W with a built in CVT, regen braking, torque sensing. 20Ah battery discreetly built in to the frame with onboard charger and fast charging available from a public car charger. Carbon frame All wiring neatly hidden in the frame Just a phone mount for display and controls via an app. All weighing ~ 15kgs!
  9. Buy the proper socket and do it up with a torque wrench? Mine hasn’t moved at all in 2000 miles and 18 months. I think the socket was about £30. I've lent it to a mate for him to do his too, if you’re local you can borrow it!
  10. In our house we have about 6 bikes… some have hydraulic brakes, some have rim brakes, some have cable operated disks. All of them work just fine and if squeezed hard enough can lock up the wheels… I don’t think any of them have ever needed any maintenance at all… If any, it’s the hydraulics that I have the feeling I’m neglecting…probably supposed to bleed them again sometime or change the fluid. I’m sure cable operated brakes are just fine on a folder! Shimano know their shit… Sure if building a bike from scratch I’d opt for hydraulics but if buying an existing bike I’d be happy with cable, there is nothing wrong with it.
  11. I’d be happy to help… post up some pictures of your frame and motor fitment? These things do need to be considered properly when selecting a frame and motor combination… if you just go with what you’ve got then it may be fundamentally wrong and only minor fettling possible. With my project, the first thing I bought was a brand new frame, a 29’er from Evans Cycles that was only £90 in the sale. It has through axles and wide chainstays for a 1x cassette. So I had to do a lot of planning to select a motor and chain ring to optimise my chain line. Used a lot of cardboard cutouts to get it right. I went with a BBSHD because this was the one that fit the best but also kinda wanted that one too… I fettled the bottom bracket face and the motor casing and used an offset Leckie Bling Ring but achieved the results I wanted to, my chainring is bang on central to the 11 speed cassette.
  12. The biggest factor to the weight of a bike is the rider. An e-bike is 10kgs at most more than a normal bike, whereas the rider can vary by 50kgs and yet when designing the bike this will be within the envelope for the brakes. People were competing at the tour-de-France with rim brakes not that long ago… does a folder need hydraulic brakes to pop to the station and back?? On my car, do I need 6 pot pistons and carbon brake disks all round, change the fluid after every 1000 miles? No… single piston disks and drums at the rear is just fine. Cable operated disks are just fine…the stopping distance will be the same with the same pads and disk size as hydraulic. You could see the maintenance as less than hydraulics and the failure mode as more progressive than getting air/water/dirt in hydraulics. Thank you for the warning of san eagle tearing me a new one, I assume you’re one of his playground gang… next you’ll be telling everyone meet behind the bike sheds at 4pm!!
  13. Haha, exactly like you! Every single topic on here you have to chime in and say ‘don’t do it like that, do it like this because I say so’ with no reasoning or explanation at all. If anyone has anything different from what you have then it’s categorically wrong… torque sensing, mid-drive etc etc. What you don’t realise is that you’re driving people away from the forum, every time someone asks a question or gives an opinion you state your own opinion as if it’s fact when it’s clear to all it’s not…. You’re think you’re the big fish and this is your forum… fair enough mate… enjoy your power!! Meanwhile or your own projects are utter shite… fancy getting your chain line so wrong that your chain keeps falling off and you have to bodge it with a chain guide??
  14. What a load of shite… instead of just stating your opinion as fact as usual, can you back this up with some reasoning and evidence? There are millions of bikes with cable disk brakes and all the major brake manufacturers make them. Are you saying they’re negligent and the riders are going to suffer death unless they spend an hour a week maintaining their brakes? …or actually are they just fine, and no better/worse than any other brakes. Here is a balanced view, presented with reasoning and explanation rather than just stated as fact…. https://www.bikeradar.com/advice/buyers-guides/mechanical-disc-brakes
  15. Could be interesting to put your route in the regen sim and see what it says.... One of the grin videos about regen makes an interesting point which is that unless you're in a race, you are wasting a lot of energy by going doing hills as fast as you can because overcoming the wind-resistance takes an amount of kinetic energy that increases exponentially with speed. Depending on your priorities, you might prefer to program your regen to limit your speed to 15/20mph and consume the remaining kinetic energy into the battery.
