Speed Pedelec Registration Guide – The Process
- Purchase your Bike
- It must have Type Approval and be supplied with a Certificate of Conformity (CoC)
- Request and complete the following forms from DVLA
- V55/4
- V267
- Send to DVLA with cheque for £55 and proof of ID
- Wait for confirmation back from the DVLA (usually 1-2 weeks)
- Receive back V5C and number plate authorisation
- Apply for vehicle tax (free for electric vehicles)
- If you’re not going to use your bike straight away, you must SORN or you will be fined (£100/£50 if paid in 28 days)
- Get your number plate and fix to your bike
- Buy motorcycle helmet (must be motorcycle/BS approved, a standard cycle helmet will not suffice) https://www.gov.uk/motorcycle-helmet-law
- Get driving licence if you don’t already have one
- Arrange insurance
